While the OP may have been a bit tacky, I certainly would not put it in the same class as the disgusting posts made about Gillard and Brown, by the loony right, and have not seen a single word of outrage against those posts, by the people here who have decided to take personal affront, on Abbott's behalf, for the tasteless speculation by some members in this thread.

If people displayed the same moral outrage about any posts which may be taken as a personal slur, about pollies they do not support, or actively dislike, then there is a chance they may be considered as really believing that All people should be treated with due  deference, and the same courtesy they would wish for themselves.
However, as I have not seen that level of equability, I once more must conclude, that people are making a claimed ethical stance, based primarily along party lines.

I will verify that Cods was critical of the lowlife attacks against the PM, Ms Gillard, made by Blackadder and Adelcrow, as was Lisa, and I apologise to both of them for thinking that they were only getting upset about the equally lowlife slurs about Abbott's catholic education, because they support him, I was wrong to jump to that conclusion.

These extremely silly threads are moved to 'Extremism Exposed", where they deserve to die from lack of oxygen, by having our sensible members just ignore the lowlifes who start them.
Leaving them there, rather than just deleting them is a judgement call which is made in the interest of free speech, as well as highlighting just how loony, as well as morally bankrupt, some people can become, when they decide to dwell on the fringes of decency and sanity, and it is good that more responsible, sensible members can see just what sort of lows, some members are willing to sink to.
Sometimes it is just a case of someone having a "bad day", and making a silly decision when not thinking clearly, and for others, it is just reinforcement for the view that everything they say or do, is worth ignoring, because nary a sane or decent tought is likely to come from them.

Now whether or not that means they should be banned, is dependent upon just how vulgar or repugnant their stated views become, and just because they have not reached that point od being banned, yet, does not mean they are not already well down the road towards it.
