Well what of it, other than an excuse to raise premiums...

Interestingly enough...Storm cells ( thunderstorms, cyclone etc) are generated by the difference between temperatures in (in this case) Australia, and the Antarctic......so as the Antarctic warms, the differences will drop towards equilibrium, therefore, global warming (or climate change) would see a reduction in major storm events, not an increase...

Keep telling yourself that son...

Gosh, an insurance company took an excuse to raise premiums!
They did the same when they decided they could rip men off as they had reserach that said men have more accidents.  Of course, what they didn't tell you was that women have a higher accident rate per kilometer driven.  But, they couldn't get away with penalising women for that - that'd be sexist.

I didn't take my comments out of context.....the cause of severe storms is high pressure (warm air) meeting low pressure (cooler/cold air)....The greater the difference, the more powerful the storm.
So, a general warming over the entire planet would reduce the difference and therefore reduce the severity of the storms...

Without wanting to buy into the rest of the debate...  Smiley

I'd just like to point out that the highlighted statement assumes that the arctic regions would warm more than the tropics. If there was a general warming over the entire planet then the difference in temperature between arctic and tropic would be unchanged.  Cool

hohoho I did waffle a bit didn't I?
Well what I was trying to say is that Insurers will take any excuse to raise premiums.  Doesn't matter whetehr it's true or not, just whether it is plausible enough for them to get away with.

Perhaps...but that's unclear at the moment...during the assorted previous fluctuations in history, the equatorial regions didn't change as much as polar regions...
Accodring to some studies I've seen..the glacial-interglacial temperature variations in the tropics was about 1-3 C......but the northern pacific/north american was from -2C to +3C...(about 5 C...as opposed to 2 C for the tropics)..
