Major X 5.4 Solar Flare !!
The second strongest solar flare of Solar Cycle 24 and the Second X-Flare from Active Region 11429. This major event measured X 5.4 at 00:24 UTC and triggered a strong R3 Level Radio Blackout. A coronal mass ejection was captured shortly after and is likely to be headed earths way. more information shortly.
The expected CME from March 4 has impacted the earths magnetic field moments ago, causing the Bz component of the IMP to deviated sharply southward to - 18 nT. Geomagnetic storm should result in the next 3-4 hours.

This major event measured X 5.4 at 00:24 UTC and triggered a strong R3 Level Radio Blackout. M6.3 Solar Flare & Earth DIRECTED CME March 9, 2012

CME Impact & G3 Class Geomagnetic Storm In Progress.
A G3 Geomagnetic Storm (KP=7) is now in progress. Solar Wind speeds touched 830km/s on the arrival of the coronal mass ejection (CME) late yesterday.
Active Region 11429 has continued where it left off, by blasting another M flare today (M6.3) while in an earth facing position, a coronal mass ejection immediately followed and is headed earths way. Impact is expected during March 11 and another geomagnetic storm may result.

I wonder how we survived Cycles 22 and 23 when these flares were commonplace? How did we survive back then without all the sensationalist journalism? I guess we had to watch the Brady Bunch instead. (No - that was during Cycle 20) They do come in cycles you know?

The Sundogs, Sonny & Cher, the Sunny Boys (although they were in the 1980s - named, I think, after those pyramidical ice blocks). Beings must have ascended very quickly back then.

A spectacular Filament Eruption (Prominence) ripped off the lower southeast quadrant of the sun today and a large Coronal Mass Ejection followed but is not heading for the earth.

CME IMPACT from a coronal mass ejection released from the sun march 10th has slammed into the earths magnetosphere causing a sharp shock to the interplanetary magnetic field (IMF). A Geomagnetic Sudden Impulse peaking to 96 nT was detected. Solar winds jumped from 400km/s to almost 600km/s on the impact. A G2 class Geomagnetic storm is possible in the next 1-2 hours.

M7.9 Solar Flare & HALO CME / Solar Watch March 14, 2012

A strong M 7.9 Solar Flare was recorded from solar Active Region 11429 earlier today. A Halo CME was produced shortly after, and is expected to deliver a glancing blow to earths magnetic field sometime March 16th. Associated with this event were a R2 Radio Blackout and a Type II Radio Emission with a velocity of 1366 km/s was monitored. And a significant proton event is now in progress.

Gigantic coronal triangle hole discovered in our Sun!

NASA Official explanation to this is:

The enormous triangular hole in the Sun’s corona was captured earlier today by NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory, seen above from the AIA 211 imaging assembly. This gap in the Sun’s atmosphere is allowing more charged solar particles to stream out into the Solar System… and toward Earth as well.

A MAGNITUDE 6.1 earthquake, the biggest in the country for 15 years, has rattled Far North South Australia.

The earthquake's epicentre was recorded at shallow depth near Ernabella, 415km north west of Coober Pedy and about 320km south west of Alice Springs, just before 8pm.

Geoscience Australia reported the quake could have been felt by people up to 500km away and damage experienced within a 40km radius of the epicentre.

Geoscience Australia seismologist David Jepsen said the quake was the biggest in Australia in 15 years.

"There are a number of Aboriginal communities near the epicentre and they would have felt the earthquake strongly," he said.

"It is possible there could be some minor damage up there. One of these in a major city would be a different story.

"People as far north as Alice Springs and as far south as Coober Pedy and Oodnadatta could have felt this."

An SA Police spokesman said there had been no reports of damage or injuries.

Dr Jepsen said a 4.3 magnitude earthquake struck near the same location about a week ago.

The earthquake was the most powerful in Australia since a 6.3 magnitude quake off Collier Bay, on Western Australia's north coast, on August 10, 1997.

It is the second largest quake to be recorded in South Australia. The biggest was a 6.5 magnitude jolt near Beachport in the South East in 1897, which caused chaos at the nearby town of Kingston and was felt in Adelaide.

A magnitude 3.3 quake rumbled through Adelaide on October 19 last year.
