Canada to withdraw from Kyoto Protocol
Dec 14th, 2011 at 10:21am

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-16151310

Quote:
Canada will formally withdraw from the Kyoto Protocol on climate change, the minister of the environment has said.

Peter Kent said the protocol "does not represent a way forward for Canada" and the country would face crippling fines for failing to meet its targets.

The move, which is legal and was expected, makes it the first nation to pull out of the global treaty.

The protocol, initially adopted in Kyoto, Japan, in 1997, is aimed at fighting global warming.

"Kyoto, for Canada, is in the past, and as such we are invoking our legal right to withdraw from Kyoto," Mr Kent said in Toronto.

He said he would be formally advising the United Nations of his country's intention to pull out.

The Alarmists will be horrified..... Grin

so what?!

ok, why not apply the same indifference to australia's carbon tax? that's probably an even bigger "so what" by environmentalist and "small things make a big difference" reasoning than this.

I'd be the last to deny that Australia's carbon tax is pissing against the wind.  At the moment even that is hypothetical  because it depends on the current government staying in office.

The latest agreement in Durban is mind-numbingly stupid. We might have an international accord by 2020?

It's a bit like saying that you're going to party hard and make your grandkids liable for your mortgage, because that's effectively what's going to happen.

I would agree that TPTB are trying to maintain the status quo now and that could put at risk future generations!

However, even the best laid plans, of mice & men, sometimes go astray and it is likely that things may not quite go according to plan?

But, that may not translate into benefits that will solve Global Climate issues.
