What IS going on with modding?
Nov 14th, 2011 at 7:27pm

We've had people banned for being a bit quirky or crazy with their style. Subsequently reinstated thankfully.

But now I've reported two people for flagrantly inciting assassination and it's ignored. Is incitement to violence okay now? Because as far as I know it's against the law of the land let alone the forum.

Read from post #158 on to see what I'm on about. Angry

They probably just haven't seen the comment. It is pretty awful.

i read post #158. it wasnt an incitement to assassination at all but rather a statement (albeit an untrue one) that nobody would care if the PM was assassinated. not exactly nice stuff though.

Longy only cares if they swear, mention drugs or call God a fictional character.
Muso only cares if they have "Lisa" in their ID and aren't actually the "Lisa" character on here.
FD has an obsession with free speech and democracy.
Mozza isn't here much.

Oh they've seen it, I reported it.

Cameron and the rest of the left should be thanking his lucky stars it's only a letter.

An assasination of any one of the leftys to bring on an election would have no one shedding a tear. There would be partying in the streets and whoever pulled the trigger would be a national hero

Anyone who got rid of one Labor Lower House MP would be my lifelong hero.

I think saying anybody who pulled the trigger would be a hero IS incitement.

No, not at all.

incitation: an act of urging on or spurring on or rousing to action or instigating; "the incitement of mutiny".

I simply stated that someone who disposed of one Labor MP would become heroic in my eyes. I went too far, sure, but I didn't threaten or incite anyone/anything.

That log_me_in ID definitely needs to be removed.

Hasn't posted anything relevant, merely sprays vitriol
on the 'left'.

And actively trolls other posters, myself included.

I will no longer engage him/her/it.

I have NEVER in my online life reported another poster, but
I nearly made an exception this morning.

I thought that was the sort of carp we were trying to get rid of.....

Free speech and democracy is good. Our society is built on it (plus a bit of slavery).

The issue I have with this - as has already been pointed out - is that we must remain free to discuss the possible consequences of an assassination attempt. Those claims make really interesting discussion points. They are wrong of course, but there is nothing wrong with that.

The line between discussing the consequences and incitement can get very blurred and I welcome more discussion on it.

You know .. you really ought to look up the word generalisation at some stage.

So let's get this straight FD. Saying-

Quote:

is okay and within forum rules; but anybody who uses a four letter word faces being banned or having their post removed?

What if Matty, (and Matty is not the worst offender here in my book) had said -

Anyone who gets rid of one Labor Lower House MP would be my lifelong hero.

would that be okay too?

I'm not going to report this to the police or to the ALP, (and that's a promise) but somebody could. I think if they did you could find yourself up to the neck in excrement for allowing it. I'm sure people have had a starring role on 'Media Watch' for less.

Bullshit.  The difference is as clear as a bell, and if it is not, one would err on the side of avoiding any suggestion of incitement.

Anyone else notice the slight spot of bother in this sentence?

Grey, I am sorry for what I said. It went too far and was said in the heat of the moment.

We all post in the heat of the moment Matty and how many moments do you need to use the modify button and remove it? Look I'm not mad with you, but this isn't about you anymore it's about the standards of behaviour on the forum generally.

You were incited by log_me_in to paraphrase his ill advised comment. Others might be incited to actual violence. There's degrees of idiocy out there. It's incumbent on anybody who speaks out in public to be reasonable.
