Michael Clarke denies playing a role in Simon Katich's sacking; says the former opener hasn't helped his cause
Michael Clarke has reaffirmed his stance that he played no role in the downfall of Simon Katich, despite the former Test opener candidly admitting his frosty relationship with Australia's skipper contributed to his demise.
On Friday, a honest Katich again expressed his disappointment at his axing from Cricket Australia's list of contracted players and hinted that his dressing room scuffle with Clarke in 2009 had played a role in his sacking.
"You don't have to be Einstein to figure out that it's not just the selectors who had a part in sending me on my way," Katich said after scoring a hundred for NSW against Victoria in Sydney.
"To be brutally honest, what happened in the dressing room a few years ago didn't help my cause."
There was a generational gap between some of the senior players and Clarke which was highlighted when Katich grabbed him by the throat during dressing room celebrations at the SCG Test three years ago.
After hours of celebration following a Test victory over South Africa, Clarke - who is not a big drinker - wanted to fulfil plans to catch up with family and friends but there was an insistence he stay until the team song had been sung.
