What a pointless thread. The article was short, and is irrelevant. Windsor is gone to Gowings, as is Oakeshott. A drover's dog would have more chance.

The unsubstantiated claims by the rightards continue. Go do a door to door survey in Armidale and watch them laugh you off their porch.

They have polled the electorate twit and neither of the independants has a chance in hell of retaiing the seat. you shoudl read more.

Abbott cops heat over carbon farming

Comment 1 comment

Thursday, 28/07/2011

The Federal Opposition Leader, Tony Abbott, has defended his plan to combat climate change amid concerns farmers won't receive proper incentives for carbon farming.

Mr Abbott and Nationals Senator Barnaby Joyce fielded questions about the Coalition's Direct Action Plan at a community forum in Tamworth last night.
Farmers queried whether a deal would be made on how much they'd receive for efforts to cut carbon emissions.

Mr Abbott says not all landholders are motivated by the financial incentives.

"A lot of people are doing it without any payment from government," he said.

"I was on Jock Laurie's property near Walcha. Jock is increasing the carbon content of his soil and again he's doing it because he thinks it's worth doing without any additional incentive from government.

"So we're going to go to the market and we're going to spend as little as we need to to get the result we want."

Typical ABC. headline talks about copping heat. How exciting!. So what happened??
Er... farmers asked qustions at a public forum.

The ABC is way more buggered and despicable than any private media outlet because it is using public money to manipulate information.

LOL, Matty...how short is your own memory!?

Surely, you cannot be suggesting that I should have posted this in one of that many pointless Windsor-cum-Oakeshott threads that have you started yourself?!

What Nem? More lunacy, what's new? I meant that the thread title is misleading, as are the comments that Windsor will not lose.

LOL, Matty...how is the thread title misleading!?

Abbott didn't receive the resounding warm welcome that he had anticipated from an electorate he expected to be predominantly against the policies of the Lab Govt - i.e. he copped some heat over his own side's poorly-articulated policies...

Had Abbott received overwhelming support at strongly-anti-Lab meetings, then this would have been a much longer article - and Abbott's successful co-option of the New England electorate would have been all over the news...

Clearly, the past news beat-ups about Windsor's purported demise had been wildly-overblown...

If Abbott had received a warm welcome in Windsor's electorate this past 2 days, his ugly mug would have been all over the news...

Apparently, most of the latest news from New England doesn't suit the agenda of his puppeteers...

In the past, Abbott & Co have vocally criticised Gillard for not listening to the general public - so, why is it that so many of Tony Abbott's supposed community consultation meetings are by invitation only!?

"RETURN TO SENDER"
by John Izzard

July 29, 2011

From the Gillard government’s Hollowmen Department comes the latest spin, trickery, manipulation or stunt—call it what you may. Four million items of junk-mail are about to hit our letterboxes, compliments of Greg Combet, our Minister for Changing the Climate.

What can you do?

Send it back.

In the film Network, Australian actor Peter Finch playing the part of a frustrated TV news reader threw open his window and screamed out across the rooftops of New York “I’m not going to take it any more”. If only we could do that? If only they’d listen?

We, the long suffering victims of the “progressive governments” that emerged out of the 2007 and 2010 federal elections, have had to sit back and watch a cascade of ideological failures in just about every reach of government action, policy and intervention. Rotten ideas that have ended in financial messes. Rotten ideas that have cost lives.

Now the country is set to embark upon the crazy notion that the world’s climate can be controlled from a room in Canberra. It can’t. But to try to convince a large chunk of the Australian public that it can, the “junk-mail drive” is coming to a letter box near you. Like any junk mail offer be very careful. Is it a truthful offer? Are you being told all of the facts? Beware of the promises! How many sets of STEAK-KNIVES do you get…free?

One way to protest to the Hollowmen of our government is to send the junk back to Greg Combet.

If it arrives in an envelope simply write RETURN TO SENDER and post it.

If it arrives as loose junk-mail, pop it into an envelope and address it to:

The Hon. Greg Combet
Minister for Climate Change
House of Representatives
Parliament House
Canberra ACT 2600

This won’t stop them, but it will let them know -  “We’re not buying”.

Tony's major during this uni years was the study of Yes Minister and how it ppertains to modern conservative politics.
Knowing this you would understand he is just extrapolating the "Never hold an inquiry you don't know the outcome of" theory to the community forum.
Seems his backgrounders were lazy this time Cheesy

its a  bit funny to see a headline about Abbott 'copping heat' when what actually happened is that he was politely asked a couple questions and (shock horror) he answerd them (politely).

it is so hard to find bad news stories about Abbott they have to invent them. same thing about GOOD news stories about Gillard. All fabrications or exaggerations.
