GetUp - GetStuffed!!

http://www.theaustralian.com.au/national-affairs/getup-plans-grocery-boycott/sto...

LEFT-leaning activist group GetUp! has flagged a boycott of major food companies in retaliation for an anti-carbon tax campaign involving the Australian Food and Grocery Council.

The group's director Simon Sheikh has written to food makers, warning they face action from 570,000 GetUp! members.

"It is our intention in the next few days to provide easy to use product information to our membership such that they can boycott goods and services that are linked to the scare campaign that the Australian Food and Grocery Council are about to sign up to," he said.

The letter asks company chiefs to answer a series of questions, including whether they accept the science of climate change, whether they back a carbon price, and whether they would consider resigning from the industry body.

It says GetUp! members and the public will be informed of the answers given.

The AFGC's members include more than 150 companies, including household names like Coca Cola, Nestle, Fosters and McDonald's.

Its full membership is published on its website.

The council recently flagged its intention to join a multi-million anti-carbon tax campaign involving the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Minerals Council of Australia and other peak industry groups.

If GetUp believes the information is wrong then under a free democracy they have a right of reply. They have the right to publish opposing information

But this is bully-boy tactic from GetUp

Anyone on the left supporting this bully-boy tactic?

It's called free speech!!

Unfortunately, they will count me among those members.  I simply wrote them a 'please explain' re: their inaction over labors malaysian solution, next thing I know they're sending me 'welcome to getup emails'
I want nothing to do with the clowns, and I wonder how many more of the 570,000 actually believe in them.

Actually no - competition is bully boy tactics - this is anti competitive tactics, passive aggressive threats of punitive economic damage for non compliance through boycotting.

I have been waiting along with" beware for "information regarding a march for PETROL TAX... lol..

but they come up with this instead... as if retail groceries went in enough trouble... well done GETUP..did we get the chance to vote for this mob??????

as they seem to be running things to whatever suits the owner..

maybe he has shares in all those companies that are for this TAX..

he looks rich and not a care in the world how much his electricity bill will be..a bit like our Cate.

well it was due to him and his members that labor had the backlash regarding the ETS..so he must be realy satisified..

he may even organise his motley crew to petition about only 500 industries... and the $23 a tonne...I am sure he and they would like more.

btw wattle I signed their save the live cattle email petition..before I got all the facts of course.

What did you call the mining industries campaign, it also harnessed it's base to push an agenda?

Are you saying that an industry has more rights of protest than an organisation of citizen's?
Wes I doubt you'd be included if you have haven't joined. It would be the sort of scandal that would destroy any credibility they had garnered & exactly what their rivals would be searching for.
Besides they are providing a list and answers from leaders for you to make your own choice, hardly anarchy in the streets.

its called cooperative collective action, the antidote to competition - I refuse to be competitive - I refuse to compete against my fellow worker and citizen or try to defeat them or cooperate with those who try to enforce competition.

Both are interest groups

Each interest groups has the rights to engage it's target audience directly with their messages

But when one interest group engage another interest group directly to stop the messages from coming out then that's not on

It won't impact us. Australian companies are few in these days of overseas corporate raiders. It's funny watching USA companies like Coke and Maccas caught up in all this when their own country is shunning a CO2 tax.
