Sell ABC TV and Radio
Jul 6th, 2011 at 9:21pm

.

Why does the Australian Government have an interest in a TV and Radio network ?

Time to flog it off perhaps ?

Would it be worth anything ?

The government is there to do the bidding of the public. It's a necessity that the public be informed on national affairs by a media that is independent and unaligned to any political faction. One only has to be aware of the corruption scandle currently embroiling the Murdoch media group to understand this.

It's also very good for brand Australia to have a TV network that's committed to producing quality drama made locally. Every Australian actor, director, writer and cameraman of international renown got their breaks on ABC dramas.

You is joking there Grey, surely ?..
Huh

'Our' abc just put out a very miss-leading programme that has cost the Australian people 100's of millions of dollars and caused huge grief to many Australians and grossly insulted Indonesia.

abc media is not working for Australia's interests.

A moronic idea; ABC is the only channel worth watching in regards to news and Current Affairs, and that's because it's owned by the Government.

We don't need yet another channel falling to the agenda driven tripe train. The day ABC put the Bingle/Clark bullsh!t before other clearly more important issues is the day Aussie T.V becomes useless.

Actually it's independent of government but receives public funds.

It certainly was not misleading. It broadcast facts about the slaughter of animals that most Australians found very disturbing. How the public and parliment responded to those facts is not the responsibility of the ABC.

If you know nothing about the scandal embroiling the Murdoch media empire then you have no business here. Try googling Murdoch+phone taps+police bribes.

Different from Britain, America, Canada, France, Germany...virtually every other country in the world which all have publicly funded television stations?   You tell me. I've already explained why they all have them.

Hmmm... in my daily life outside of forums i'm yet to hear anybody claim the ABC is impartial.. Huh   Yer always need to go to the internet to double check anything from the Oz ABC.

Thats looking to be incorrect. Those meat workers portrayed in the programm are now known to have been paid by the film crew... were it an admitance cost, or something else ? Looks like more to come yet...

WA Liberal Senator, Chris Back, the only experienced veterinarian in the Federal parliament, said there was a major cloud hanging over the ABC program and associated footage supplied by Animals Australia.

The extreme animal rights group has an uncompromising agenda to end the live export trade altogether, despite unprecedented work from industry to improve animal welfare practices in foreign markets.

Senator Back said he is pushing to find out more about the vision's origins.

He said more than anything else, "I want to know about the integrity of that footage".
