Actually, what gives Australia that reputation is the Government and some of the people thinking that a Carbon Tax will affect our emissions at all, and that any changes to our emissions will even be noticeable in world Co2 levels...
I heard a quote on the radio the other day from a climate scientist..
He said that "Australia could sink beneath the ocean, and it wouldn't make any difference to Co2 levels"..
No one with at least half a brain thinks that a carbon tax in Australia will bring down world emissions on its own, or was designed to bring down world emissions, as a whole, on its own. But its a step forward for us in contributing to the world and standing side by side with other countries. Not only that, but despite what people may think, we as a nation can be influential, especially in our region. Us doing something means it's a closer step towards getting others to do something. And so on.
And this is where the debate gets so completely skewed by the nuff nuff denialists who have NO UNDERSTANDING apart from their own greed. And it is greed. Whether you like it or not.
And irrespective of personal belief in ACC, the fact still remains that the Carbon Tax idea is about regaining a budget surplus and won't have any effect on Co2 emissions..
The 'big polluters' will pass the costs on to the consumers, so they don't lose any profit, the Government will then compensate the consumers for the increased costs, so the consumers don't lose out either...
It's not even a case of 'robbing peter to pay paul'...it's 'robbing peter, to pay peter'.....all that happens will be the money moves around, and ends up back where it started..
