Suck it Nail, Battery Electric Cars Dead
May 19th, 2011 at 9:39am

Looks like last nail is going to be spewing that he won't be able to not afford the battery electric cars, thanks to the hydrogen fuel cells making a rapid leap forward.

Suck it nail, you were never going to buy one anyway, just keep driving that petrol guzzer while I zip around in my fuel cell car in a couple of years  Grin

For the others not so hung up of crap battery technology, well worth a read

The dawn of the hydrogen-powered fuel-cell vehicle is closer than predicted, with a Chinese car maker the latest to commit to a production vehicle by 2015.

Chinese car maker Shanghai Automotive (SAIC) will have a plug-in fuel-cell vehicle on sale by 2015, joining the growing ranks of makers who will offer hydrogen-powered cars in the next few years.

Both Mercedes-Benz and Toyota have predicted they will have fuel-cell vehicles commercially available by 2015, while the Hyundai/Kia group is targeting an even closer date. Honda already leases a fuel cell vehicle - the FCX Clarity - in the United States and Japan as part of a development program.

...and where are the gonna get all this HYDROGEN from?
Roll Eyes

Free natural power please.

Don't worry LastNail, someone will soon figure out how to harness all that 'FREE' Electricity from Lightning strikes soon. Then you will really see this planet 'activate'. Smiley

My god jas your ignorance know no bounds.

You are asking where are we going to get the single most abundant element in the universe?

If I remember my Grade 8 science, how about electrolysis, for starters.

Here's a very dumbed down synopsis.

Electricity converts water into hydrogen and oxygen

Hydrogen is put in the car

The fuel cell converts hydrogen into elecricity (producing water) and drives the electric motors.

The car drives for 500 km and then is quickly refueled at a hydrogen station.

Im suprised (not really) the nail has had nothing to say in this matter considering it his single most favorite topic.  Grin

'goes 300km' on single charge

Japanese electric car 'goes 300km' on single charge

Japanese company reveals SIM-LEI
On sale by 2013, but price unknown

JAPANESE developers have unveiled an electric car that they say can travel more than 300 kilometres before its battery runs flat.

Electric vehicle specialist SIM-Drive, which hopes to take the car to market by 2013 but gave no projected cost, said its four-seater "SIM-LEI" had motors inside each wheel and a super-light frame, allowing for 333km of motoring on one charge in a test.

Its designers say they hope the prototype, a joint project among 34 organisations including Mitsubishi Motors and engineering firm IHI, will be sold to car manufacturers for mass production.

Automakers such as Nissan, which launched its all-electric Leaf last year with a 160km range, are gambling that electric cars with zero tailpipe emissions will catch on and, some time in the future, start to drive traditional petrol-guzzlers off the road.

Electric cars still face key hurdles such as costly batteries and the lack of conveniently-located recharging points, which limits their operating radius.

The bits you didn't bother reading DRH

But the general manager of SAIC's new electric vehicle division, Pin Gan, says the Shanghai (a working title only) will employ the fuel-cell as a range extender for the battery system, in much the same way that General Motors uses a conventional petrol engine to recharge its batteries on the run. The system would extend the range of the electric vehicle from its current 150km to 500km, the same as a conventional petrol car.

He says fuel-cell vehicles are far more practical as a long-term solution than electric vehicles powered by the grid.

"Anyone who buys a battery electric vehicle as their family car is going to have to change their lifestyle because of the limited range," he says.

Fuel-cell vehicles would be able to match the range of petrol-powered cars in the near future.

The report, released late last year, used confidential data supplied by car makers to map out a range of scenarios covering all types of electric vehicles. Companies that supplied data to the study included Toyota, Ford, General Motors, Volkswagen, Hyundai, Honda, BMW, Nissan and Daimler AG.

The report found that limited battery capacity and driving range, as well as long recharging times, would confine plug-in battery vehicles to urban driving.

It concluded that fuel-cell vehicles, with range and performance comparable to conventional petrol-engined cars, were the best solution for family cars covering longer distances.

"These segments account for 50 per cent of all cars and 75 per cent of CO2 emissions... FCEVs are therefore an effective low-carbon solution for a large proportion of the car fleet," it said.

This is an old story and you are a complete ignoramus as usual. Hydrogen gas is not abundant. It requires energy to extract it from water which makes a hydrogen car a quarter of the efficiency of a battery electric car. The infrastructure to deliver and supply hydrogen to the masses is massively expensive and nobody wants to invest in it whilst oil is still around.

Secondly why would you get ripped off at the fool bowser buying hydrogen when you can charge up your battery EV at home with cheap renewable energy ?? Do you honestly think that the government is not going to slap a massive tax on hydrogen ?

You have just proved that you are dumb and dumber.

So where do you fill it up and how much fool excise tax will you pay to the government for the privilege Cheesy LOL

I don't recall the government taxing sunlight energy Wink LOL

HYBRIDS AY!??!

WELL WELL WELL.... LIKE SOLAR BOOSTED FOSSIL FUEL GENERATING ELECTRICITY! HYBRIDISATION OF TECHNOLOGIES WILL EXTEND THE LIFE OF THE VESTED INTERESTS AND THUS WILL BE THE CONCEPT OF THE 21ST CENTURY!

... AND 22ND, 23RD AND 24TH....

IT IS SIMPLY EFFICIENCY... ECONOMICS DICTATE THAT EFFICIENCY DRIVES WILL ALWAYS TAKE PLACE!

THE WORLD TURNS .... [NEXT!]  Roll Eyes

Yes, but the combining(hybridisation) of both concepts will remain an intact concept.

The fuel cells extend range.... a point of diminishing returns/ balance point will be found acceptable in the market.

Simply a question of efficiency: markets set prices to such questions!

hey bigoldwanker, looks like the cheap chinese electric cars have already beaten the never ever hydrogen cars in South America Smiley LOL

2 bucks of electricity for an 81 mile range. No expensive oil, petrol or hydrogen needed Wink
