lol I just watched it. What a bumbling idiot. You could plainly see him trying to come up with BS to answer questions that were directed toward his own words. Real funny and thank god this idiot and the greens will never be in power in Australia.

Unlike Abbott who had no answer at all!!!

The irony is lost on the stupid!!!

I dont see your point. Stuck for words on something that was off the cuff. You are bound to say something to upset someone else.

I dont think this is comparable to having policy about something.

But what the hell. If thats the best you got, then I feel sorry for you.

Abbott knew exactly what was going to be asked....the Liberal party had refused to release the video until freedom of information requests were granted.....Your condemnation of Brown is fair if you also condemn the performance of Abbott when faced with a difficult question.....You are a hypocrite mate!!!

If an ABC interviewer went in that hard against Abbott the sound of conservatives whining would be heard over the top of an AC/DC concert in Brazil. That said Bob Brown clearly wasn't up to the challenge.

Exactly....look at the way the faithful excused Abbott when he had no response to a question he knew was coming!!!

Whatever. Poor comparison. If you want me to condem Abbott, then give me him doing this about policy.

Abbott did look like an idiot sure, but that is as far as I can take this for you. You feel better about that or are you looking for something else.

Abbott is trying to be Prime Minister.....Brown is not......Abbott has shown he is unstable when his performance is not scripted....but you are correct, Brown's performance was very poor!!!

I am just not feelin it. This is by no way enough to deter people from Abbott. At this stage I think he would have to press a nuke button (if we had one) and blow up part of Australia by accident, to lose the next election.

what is it about people like Bob Brown...

at the end of the day he can tell us dollar for dollar and how long it will take.. for Abbott policy..

yet can tell us almost nothing about his own policy even down to length of time for TAX or even if a price wil be the call..I find that quite amazing...

does he just study the Libs and draw straws with the labs?????

or does he make it all up....seems odd to me he has got Abbott all worked out but not his own.

So true...

BOB BROWN: (Blah, blah, blah)... subsidies to the polluting fossil fuel industries. For example, $1.7 billion to the coal mining industry so that they pay 38 cents a litre less for their fuel than the average punter in Australia.

CHRIS UHLMANN: So you're talking about the diesel fuel rebate scheme?

BOB BROWN: That's a component of it but I emphasise that the big coal industry - largely owned outside Australia - pays 38 cents less than the average Australian, including small business people, for its fuel because of this massive subsidy going to actually promote pollution.

CHRIS UHLMANN: But that subsidy also goes to farmers, it goes to hospitals, it goes to nursing homes, so you would withdraw that as well to subsidise complementary measures?

BOB BROWN: Six hundred million goes to farmers, a tiny fraction, which we would keep in place. But when it comes to this massive subsidy - multibillion subsidy - to the mining industry...(blah, blah, blah...  )

Soooo... clustafeck Brown admits its the same 'rebate' that the farmers get.. Huh

The fuel tax is basicly for funding public roads.

As a farmer using tractors etc that arn't used on public roads the Diesel fuel rebate scheme applys to me. The rebate is an exemption of a road tax for those not using roads.

Why should the fuel for mine equipment that is NOT using public roads be taxed fer public road works ? i

.... Grin

Oh boy, yer just gotta look at that interview a few times because its a bit hard to take it in while yer laughing at the shear stupidity of BOB BROWN... Grin

CHRIS UHLMANN: That $11 billion that you're talking about is money that he would forego in the mining tax, and I noticed you started your budget and reply speech just there. How would you replace the $50 billion a year in export income which comes by way of coal - an industry that you'd shut down?

BOB BROWN: Well, a lot of that money is bouncing straight back out to shareholders overseas. Now what we're...

CHRIS UHLMANN: A lot of that money is circulating in the economy. It's creating job, Senator, it's bouncing through to our cities.

BOB BROWN: Yes, Chris, and what we would do is take the advice of the Treasury of this nation and recoup the $145 billion over the next 10 years through a super profits tax. Tony Abbott says...

CHRIS UHLMANN: But you can't recoup it if you shut the industry down.

BOB BROWN: Treasury...

CHRIS UHLMANN: If you shut the coal industry down there won't be that money...

BOB BROWN: I'm sorry
...

....  Shocked .......... Huh ................ Grini.

He did struggle, interestingly. I would of thought the questions easy for one of the few honest and open political leaders we have.
I say that not because i agree with him, but because i would find it impossible to suggest otherwise.

But can anyone explain why Uhlmanns premise was not totally bogus.

What does a phase out mean? Just because Uhlmann wanted it to mean '50 billion dollars' does not make it so.

He did struggle, but his words were honest and sufficient.

Well i think Bob Browns words do that. Does he say that he would like to see a phase out of coal while being replaced with other industries?
or does he say he wants the coal industry shut down tomorrow and is happy to see 50b dollars dissappear with it?

In a broader sense, the world is trying to move towards being carbon neutral. Unless the consumption of coal can be worked into that aim, than the world is trying to phase out coal.

Am i mistaken in my interpretation?
