In all seriousness, I really don't think that ones political leanings has anything to do with educational achievement.

In all seriousness I cant believe you think that. if you are talking about your PERSONAL leanings then yes, you are correct b ut not if you are referring to the educators themselves. students are flooding to the private sectors in large part because ot the political ideology (left-wing) of public schools.

I worked with curriculum developers (tertiary) for a few years.
About a third were lefties, about a third were righties and the other third I have no idea - they were all over the place.

Pretty much the same as the overall population.

The proportions entering uni would be about that, but the differnce is that 'righties' move on to real jobs when their degree is finished, while 'lefties' stay on at uni for year after year after year, as a) they don't actually learn anything useful in their airy-fairy arts degrees, b) they are too scared to venture out into the real world and c) they can spread their ideologies to impressionable youth by stryaing on as a tutor or lecturer.

Not so. There are studies going back to the '70s showing that an overwhelming majority of academics are lefties, especially in the humanities, such as education (8 to 10 lefties for every normal one). ALso, education and the public service remains more unionised than perhaps any other area.

The Australian Bureau of Statistics Adult Literacy and Life Skills Survey (2008) found that 44 per cent of Australia's working-age population had literacy skills below the standard required to operate effectively in the modern knowledge-based economy.

BULLSH!T private(religious) education is getting flooded by students because of the perception of better discipline & better morals.
It's why I spend nearly 12K a year, nothing to do with "Leftie" educators more to do with the fact that disruptive students rule the roost to the detriment of all others.

Which is a consequence of the leftys 'no discipline as it could harm the poor dears self esteem' approach.

Permitting the dregs to disrupt and go unchecked  IS a lefty stance.

The subject matter in Arts degrees underpins a lot the debates found in politics and journalism. Even 'rightist' viewpoints are taught in university. The classical liberal philosophers are still taught. Machiavelli and Nietzsche are taught, both would be considered more right than left.
It is a fallacy to claim the Arts has no practical application and that no one learns anything.
Speak to any politician or media commentator and 99.9% of the time their views can be traced back to a thinker from the Arts.

Yes, but you all forget the major point of the argument.
America, in the name of the West, are the Achievers ...hence the President.
Australia, in the name of the West, are the Breeders ...hence Shazza at 42 Eucalyptus Dr with her 15 kids to a number of Fathers who work pleb jobs for the Union Jack.

USA: Politics = Power / Art = Population
AUST: Politics = Population / Art = Power

...simple equation. Wink

Sorry any Education run by 'any' Govt from a Political point of view will either be defunct for the Breeders or in denial for the Achievers based upon 'overseas' agendas.

If 'righties', like those you find on internet forums, were in control of education, all you'd get is theories on how to whinge about Muslims/homosexuals/Abo's etc.

An intelligent right leaning thinker is hard to come by. Most think complaining about things actually constitutes intelligence. Even 4 year olds can sit around whingeing about what offends their sensitivites.

It's a real shame that there aren't that many intelligent rightists around because it's good for discussion. And, I actually have some sympathies with their views.

Well funny you should say that "Shmidty",
But Australia's Political Future is nothing more than a Breeding pattern and any edu-ma-kashon that goes with it is a Co-Educational "stimulus" package behind the toilet blocks.
If you want Political EMPOWERMENT - then I suggest you SELL OUT  to the USA and its European colony known as the UK.

Go on then, go to the USA and UK and say how "Aussie as" you are upon 'their' shores for the mighty $$chinga.

Just because they are more intelligent does not automatically mean they are lefties.

For the record i didnt start calling pple lefties in this thread or forum.
I much prefer the terms liberals/progressives its more relevant to describe these attitudes and pple here in Aus. The term Leftie just like rightwinger has zilch meaning these days.  Its  those with their utes and dogs which love to label and stereotype anyone or anything they dont understand i simply use your terminology to attempt to empathise with the ockers here thats about it. I am in agreement  with you in as much as i think lefties is over used and used incorrectly.

As with most things in Australia i find it depends on where you are located. The scene sydeny NSW would far different to QLD or even many regional centres of NSW. Those progressives in sydney are not like those in say QLD or WA in those states  they tend to be more conservative according to their state culture anyway.
Theres no sure way you can claims its the same picture form state to state region to region, Australia is very variable!. There are those that believe QLD universties or schools are well below the standard of NSW universities especially Unis like UNSW, Sydney Uni, or UTS for example.
I mean for example you can get into many Business degress at Griffith Uni Qld for UAI of of just 70 a credit whereas in Sydney you need 85 plus, thus high distinction to get into the same Degree real or percieved the standards and the attitudes are quite different in Sydney society, thus the politics is different, Australians are parochial they just dont travel enough.
