Abbott forging ahead
May 3rd, 2011 at 1:16pm

the lunatic left are gwrne

Quote:
TONY Abbott's still not "popular", but the Liberal leader's personal appeal to voters has lifted out of a slump as he relentlessly attacks the carbon tax, edging the Gillard government towards an irredeemable position.
Personal appeal to voters - or a lack of it - has been the Liberal leader's greatest handicap as he's reversed the Coalition's political fortunes and put the Opposition well ahead of the ALP.

This apparent lack of appeal was also the bedrock for Labor's fundamental and deluded electoral strategy before and since the August campaign.

Labor has tried to argue away its dire political predicament and lack of authority by saying Abbott is unelectable, negative and too divisive.

The argument goes further to posit that once the bad days and months of the carbon tax implementation are passed after July 1 next year Abbott will be left with nothing to attack and positive policy will deliver Labor victory.

Even yesterday Wayne Swan continued to defend the carbon tax and attack Abbott on the grounds of negativity and a lack of policy.

Labor's strategy has always been to talk down Abbott's prospects and encourage division among the Liberals. It was a strategy that worked against Abbott's Liberal predecessors and Labor has simply redoubled its efforts against the "negative", "carping" and "extreme" Leader of the Opposition.

Labor blamed the loss of a parliamentary majority in various ways on the dumping of Kevin Rudd, denying Abbott's campaign success and continuing to argue his unelectability despite the Coalition's clear supremacy in terms of the primary vote and Gillard's own lack of voter approval.

Despite his successful campaign to turn unions and industry out against the carbon tax and capitalise on Labor's woeful handling of asylum-seekers, Labor continues harping on Abbott's carping.

But Abbott's national campaign at workplaces on the rising cost of living, while Gillard was overseas, appears to have lifted him from the personal doldrums with voters. If this is the start of a trend for Abbott, Labor runs the risk of being left without even a fig leaf to cover its delusions.

He only needs to stand still and watch them run backwards to oblivion.
Easy peasy.

think a FIVE POINT drop from the budget. Even labor strategists are talking sub 30% primary vote figures.

oh poor diddums.... cant handle the thought of a coaltion govt with a large majority? get used to it! Labors primary vote is plumetting and a nice vote-losing budget just about to be brought down. Labore strategists are bracing for an possible sub-30% primary vote which would indicate wholesale slaughter in an election. or havent you seen labor votes lately. 27% in NSW and 24% in SA. both states are normally good for labor. so think what its like in the BAD states!!!

Industry is now beginning to believe that the carbon tax will not be passed. They are already preparing plans for it to fail. IF Gillard has to guts to put up legislation (which is doubtful) it needs to pass te lower house and it wont if Wilkie doesnt get his way. then it needs to get thru the senate where the idiot Greens will almost assuredly vote against it because it wont be as draconian as they demand.  Think they wont? just remember the ETS they voted against.
