Once again Spin you have got it about as wrong as possible.

Look at the past results and you find that the Liberals in power over more than a decade had virtually all negative results and that it has been Labor who have turned it around - this is doubly embarresing for the Libs considering they campaigned in 1996 with the debt truck and then failed miserably.

From bananas to Bulgaria: trade debt soars

The worst trade deficit on record, the highest foreign debt in Australian history and plummeting department store sales have raised new questions about the fundamentals of the economy.

Australia racked up a current account deficit of $15.6 billion in the March quarter, 7.25 per cent of GDP and on par with eastern European nations such as Romania and Bulgaria.

Net foreign debt hit new highs, up around $3 billion to $424 billion - or more than $21,000 for every man, woman and child.

Treasurer Peter Costello played down the debt figures, saying the country was in a stronger position to service the debt than ever before.

But Labor said Mr Costello and the government had now overseen 41 consecutive trade deficits and had little idea on how to turn the deficits around.
