1st NSW Greens MP!?
Apr 1st, 2011 at 6:54pm

Apparently, Antony Green has tipped that the Greens will soon have their first NSW MP...

This from the ABC...

Greens close in on Balmain victory

Updated 10 hours 9 minutes ago

The New South Wales Greens are inching closer to their first seat in the state's Lower House as vote counting from last Saturday's election continues.

With 100 per cent of primary votes in all electorates now counted, the final make-up of the Legislative Assembly looks likely to be 69 seats for the Coalition, 20 for Labor, three independents and one Green.

The Greens candidate for Balmain, Leichhardt Mayor Jamie Parker, has now overtaken sitting Labor MP Verity Firth to sit in second place on primary votes.

It is expected the distribution of preferences will allow Mr Parker to overtake Liberal candidate James Falk to win the seat.

"I'm hopeful and it is an incredibly frustrating process, but it just pays to be patient and we'll just have to wait and see what the result is," Mr Parker said.

"I think all the candidates are feeling the same way. They're wanting to see a result but we do want the process to be done correctly and so it's being done methodically and it just takes as long as it takes."

A victory in Balmain would help dispel disappointment for the Greens over the party's failure to win the neighbouring seat of Marrickville from former health minister Carmel Tebbutt.

The Liberals have claimed victory in the last two seats that had been undecided in the Hunter Valley.

Newcastle's Labor MP Jodie McKay conceded defeat to Tim Owens last yesterday while Garry Edwards has taken Swansea from another ALP member, Robert Coombs.

Meanwhile the post-political life of former Labor powerbroker Joe Tripodi has hit an early hitch.

The 43-year-old was stopped by police on Tuesday afternoon and fined for talking on his mobile phone while driving in Canley Heights, in Sydney's south-west.

Race for Balmain getting closer
Elections 31 Mar 11 @ 09:17am by Lauren Murada

WHILE Liberal James Falk is set to take first place in the primary count, the race for second place between Labor’s Verity Firth and Greens’ Jamie Parker is getting closer.

At last count, 7.40am today, less than 50 votes separated the pair.

With 85 per cent of votes counted Mr Falk was in the lead with 14,124 primary votes, Ms Firth in second with 13,094 and Mr Parker in a close third with 13,047.

Ms Firth is still in the lead to take the seat however, ahead of Mr Falk after preferences at 50.5 per cent of the vote.

The vote after preferences could change however if Mr Parker finishes in second place.

Votes will continue to be tallied until the first two positions have been decided and preferences can distributed to decide the winner.

                             **********************

What kind of a stupid voting system do we have when it comes down to who finishes second or third!

That's what we want -  a Green in a parliament that is 70% conservative.  It will be a daily exercise in ridiculing and withering that Green.

That's OK nemesis, it is your party which looks to have won so you deserve to be the one who crows over it. Am I to take it you are another one like buzz who has now deserted Labor for the murky waters of the Greens? Be careful, you don't know what might be under the surface.

I thought Equitist was always a Greens supporter through and through, I think Labor is his second choice.

The Greens have already put someone into the federal lower house for NSW:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Organ

Interesting take. Perhaps this explains the constant cries that the Greens are doing badly, despite increasing their share of the vote:

http://www.theaustralian.com.au/news/features/green-dream-turns-to-ashes/story-e6frg6z6-1226030941481

Expectations management is something the Greens clearly have to learn. The party has a habit of talking itself into a situation where solid minor party performances are viewed as failure.

"It can seem strange that we are debating a minor party's 'failed' election effort when they hit 35 per cent [primary vote in Marrickville], an impressive result for a small party at the best of times," Stott Despoja says.

Don't tell me the lovely Stott Despoja is planning a reincarnation as a Green.

You cant expect anything but trouble from preferencing dangerous fringe fanatic groups like the Greensv - trust your instincts, demand better from the major parties, insist apon it, fight for it, but dont open the door to unhinged groups like Bob Browns. Smiley

No surprise that you hate a democratically elected party.

Well I would describe them as an offensive rabble of extremist radicals whose general psychological profile is psychopathic, socially destabilizing, vindictive and harmful - I do not see them in any positive democratic light. Smiley

You know who you remind me of Snickers, the Tea Party nuts in the USA.
If as you say you are disabled, a Tony Abbott lead liberal party is the last thing you need in your life.
The Greens and Labor are much more sympathetic to your needs than Abbott ever will be.
With Tony you might find yourself having to move away from your support base to take a crappy low paying job in the middle of no where, or lose your benefit.
Just going on his musings so far Wink

Like those low socioeconomic people in the USA screaming for the republicans................madness
