Man killed "for his own safety"
Mar 10th, 2011 at 12:48pm

The Queensland police force needs to re-train their coppers in the english language and taser usage.  Grin

A police officer who repeatedly tasered a north Queensland man says he used the device because he was concerned for the man's safety.

Senior Constable Craig Myles told the inquest into the death of Antonio Galeano, he deployed the Taser because he was concerned about the 39-year-old hurting himself or others.

Mr Galeano died in June 2009 on the floor of his girlfriend's apartment after being tasered multiple times as Sen Const Myles and his partner Constable Marina Cross attempted to arrest him.

Advertisement: Story continues below The officers say the Taser was used five times against Mr Galeano, but data recorded by the device indicated it had been activated 28 times.

28 tazerings does seem rather excessive, unless he was a Muslim, everyone knows what poor conductors they are.

MAVIS!

I was hoping you'd say something like ..  yes indeed Lisa .. there is a slight spot of bother in a situation where an armed officer of the law states he used his tazer FIVE times .. when in actual fact he used it TWENTY EIGHT times .. ON THE ONE PERSON!

Prolly the same reason they like to use the spinelock, which I am told is excrutiatingly painful, so they can arrest you for resisting arrest.

Excessive force and common assualt is pretty common with our coppers (2000 recorded cases last year), costing the QLD taxpayer over $4 mil a year in hush money / compesation.

Get THIS ....

...

Five Victorian Police shot dead this mentally ill juvenile, armed with a knife, in a car-park because he kept screaming "shoot me, shoot me"

Now ...
The police are argueing at the inquest that the finding should be "death by suicide"

Imagine a homeowner trying that one on after the coppers find a dead home invader on the kitchen room floor.  Grin

Easiest murder charge for the cops to lay is when a homeowner protects his family from a home invader.

We had a similar case in WA involving one Kevin Sprat, 24 shocks over 2 days I believe (can't post a link because of the 5 post rule), it was luckily not fatal.

I think there needs to be greater control over the use of tasers, by making more paperwork for each shocked delivered by the devices the officers will think twice before applying them so liberally.

I don't think paperwork is going to solve the problem.

Maybe being charged with assault or murder would tighten things up a bit. You known making the cops accountable to the same laws as the rest of us.

For the 2000 assaults commited by QLD coppers there should have been 2000 charges laid, not $4 mil in hush money paid out.

I'll have to disagree with you Lisa.....

The officer claimed he used his Taser FIVE times.....but the device recorded twenty eight times......the  internal data record is not the same thing as 'actual fact'.....
