Julia Gillard locking up more children in detention than John Howard

JULIA Gillard is locking up more than 1000 children in immigration facilities, beating the Howard Government's own "cruel" record.

And rising numbers of boatpeople are locking out thousands of asylum seekers waiting in overseas refugee camps.

The Coalition will move to guarantee places for asylum seekers who are languishing in overseas refugee camps when Parliament resumes, accusing the Prime Minister of allowing people smugglers to run Australia's refugee intake.

New figures obtained by The Sunday Mail confirm 1046 minors are being held in detention. The previous high-water mark was nearly 10 years ago when 842 children where held in detention in September, 2001, according to the Human Rights Commission.

Oh, would this be why Amnesty slammed Julia Gillard for her refugee policies recently also, re- her inhumane treatment of children and adults?

Put it into perspective:

The number of refugees didn't rise or drop according to world statistics, it's just more moved from Indonesian detention centres over to Australian detention centres. That being the case, would you prefer the kids be held in an Indonesian detention centre, or an Australian one? Because if you support Howard's policies you are basically assuring:

1. Kids get held in Indonesian detention centres.
2. Any kid who comes here on a refugee status will not be granted citizenship. Eventually, say 10-15 years down the track once it may be deemed to be safe to go home again they will be required to leave as their temporary visa expires. So, they get to leave a life they made for themselves in a country they started calling home.

Continue trying to spin. This is hilarious!

I am a supporter of the Greens policy on asylum seekers/refugees so I would have to say that both Labor and the Coalitions policies are cruel and unnesessary.

We all know its just a political solution to woo One Nation voters.
I dont think anyone who has voted for the coalition since Howard took power should be assuming any moral high ground on this issue.

Face it, Labor are hopeless on everything, even refugee policy!

Muslims think because there's a few 'said' Muslim MP's in their ranks...they might get a fair deal.

hahahah.... they converted straight back to Christianity after the election, this and hate refugees more than their peers do...if anything, they are always trying to prove how un-muslim they are by ignoring their blights. Hypocrites!!!

"Hey, if you give me a 6 figure Labor salary and some coal land , i'll be a Muslim too...if this will make you feel more comfortable voting for the party that employs me".- Labor MP (Insert religion of your choice here)

Shesh mellie Many of those- ‘ children who are in the Inverbrackie Detention Centre, and who are also attending local schools, are not exactly living in some hell hole. Remember only last November Abbott was deriding Inverbrackie as an “idyllic location”. I agree with him on this – it is a lovely area, and I think if you are going to have families in detention, a place like Inverbrackie is about as good as it gets. In fact I think should be the standard.’

I would rather they were in the community but Inverbracki is a good comprimise.
