Surely if you really put the interests of the children first, you would seek actual evidence about what is the best domestic situation for them rather than confusing your own gut feeling for what is right. So far the evidence points to homo couples being no worse than heterosexual couples.
I guess this entire thread has been the case of broad generalities versus specific cases. When it comes to adoption or legal custody, a wide range of factors would almost certainly have to be considered on a
specific case basis (not on the basis of statistics, broad generalities or gut feeling).
When it comes to the natural children of parents who have gone on to a homosexual lifestyle, it becomes a question of what's the alternative anyway?
I am only saying that I have a gut feel about it, and that it may be no more than a prejudice. When it come down to actual legislation, a lot of injustices have been perpetrated as a result of blanket laws applied to families. We always need to consider individual case details.
So when it comes down to adoption or anything in that line, I am not advocating gut feeling as a determining factor. I think that all aspects of the case should be considered in great detail with the welfare of the children in mind.
In my view,
with all other factors being equal, if it came down to a choice of custody between heterosexual parents or homosexual parents, the heterosexual parents would win hands down, because it's a much better environment from the viewpoint of role models and social stability for the child. Again there are obvious exceptions. The case of the lesbian relationship that Lisa brought up and the dysfunctional heterosexual parents that another poster brought up are extreme cases that should be rejected for adoption, and obviously alternative custodial arrangements made for the children - with urgency. The kids need to be taken out of that harmful environment. These are no brainers.
