Will you connect to the NBN?
Dec 21st, 2010 at 10:35am

The govt belives that 70% of households will connect to the NBN. The question is... will you?

The NBN will offer me a 12Mbs internet and a landline - two things I already have. So the advantage is slim unless i want 100Mbs connection which i might but probably wont.  Will it cost me to connect? if so then the answer is no. Will they want to trench thru my newly landscaped garden? If so then also NO.

I doubt I am that different to most people. If you already have ADLS2+ and a landline then I dont see the point. And will the NBN connection be cheaper than ADLS2+? not a chance.

so let me know. will YOU connect to the NBN and why. and state what your current options are.

Why not hicks? Because you don't live here?

Maybe a way to cut to the chase would be to ask lefties who will not, or righties who will?

all other things being equal, the only possible reason is to get 100Mbs bandwidth and the need for that at present is nil. Desire, yes. Need, no.

It will be an economic decision.

I will connect if its cheap enough, but I wont be connecting for speed purposes.  My wireless is plenty fast enough, so if the NBN is cheap enough I might.

To be honest, I quite like having my prepaid wireless for home, lets me take the laptop anywhere.

Connection rate is around $58 for basic connection and for faster speeds around $78-85 per month.

With all the hoo-haa about the NBN, it really isn't that fast at all.
WiMax is a lot faster at the same cost.

This is going to be another great big white elephant.

When people ask me about why I pay as little tax as possible, I merely point to the way Government piss our money against the wall as an answer.

Once the copper network is decommissioned you won't get a choice. If you want a fixed line net or phone connection then the NBN will be the only game in town.

10 years ago we were all on dial up getting about 3 to 5 kilobytes per second. It will be another 10 years before the project is finished and I suspect that by 2020 ADSL2+ will be woefully inadequate.

The NBN is future proofing Australia's future internetspeeds because at the moment the speeds we have are pedestrian compared to other countries.
