I wonder if the fact that the Liberal Party and Malcolm Fraser had a falling out had anything to do with Malcolm Fraser's resignation.

And still the champagne socialist doesn't get it.

So Alexander Downer resigned 7-8 months after the election.
Brendan Nelson resigned 21 months after the election.
Peter Costello resigned 23 months after the election.

And you wish to compare that with John Brumby resigning 3-4 weeks after the election.

You really have missed the point haven't you.

Or, Alexander Downer resigned 27-28 months before the election.
Brendan Nelson resigned 15 months before the election.
Peter Costello resigned 13 months before the election.

Compared to John Brumby resigning 3 years 11 months before the election!

Hardly a mid term resignation at all.
It is a blatant dummy spit.

It is not a dummy spit I think there should be a system in place that if a member of parliament resign for any reason, if it one month after an election or six months before an election, there should be a better way then having a bi-election.

The only reason there should be a bi-election if the member dies in office.

Other thing they should do if they announce they are not standing for a up comming election they should resign straight away

Malcolm Fraser resighned from the leadership - and the parliament -
ON THE NIGHT
he lost to the Hawke Government

But the timing is irrelevent

A byelection, sooner or later, occurs regarless

Bob Hawke resign just after he lost the prime ministership and Paul Keating resign just after he lost election in 1996

Quote:
At a second challenge, on 20 December 1991, Keating defeated Hawke in a party-room ballot, 56 votes to 51. Hawke resigned from Parliament on 20 February 1992[58], sparking the 1992 Wills by-election, which was won by independent Phil Cleary from a record field of 22 candidates.

Quote:
In the March federal election, the Keating Government was swept from power in a massive landslide....Keating immediately resigned as Labor Party leader, and resigned from Parliament a little over a month later, on 23 April 1996

Mcgauran, Vaile, Downer, Costello, Nelson.

Downers' was perhaps the most "controversial", since he stated that he had been thinking about it for a long time - which begged the question of why he stood in November 2007.

Vaile was replaced by Oakeshott.

I`m thinking about building another tardis.
