Ssang Yong Stavic
Dec 14th, 2010 at 4:52pm

Five years ago, I acquired a Taxi Licence to operate a "People Mover" Cab in Queensland.  It was a condition of the Licence that the Vehicle had to have a seating capacity of at least Driver plus six.

I looked at all the available offerings.  The Toyota Torago, the Mazda MPV, the Mitsubishi Grandis, the Kia Carnival, the Hyundai Traje, the Mercedes Vito, the Honda Odyssey , the Chrysler Voyager and probably I have forgotten others.  The point is....I  tested them all.

I selected the Ssangyong Stavic.  It was $15,000.00 cheaper than the Torago, and beat all the others, and the Torago in many ways.

The Stavic has a Mercedes five cylinder turbo diesel engine, all the running gear is Mercedes.  It is made in Korea by a Chinese Mega Corporate.  To get to the rear seats, you access a little 'hallway,  and you do not have to clamber over the middle row of seats.  It has respectable boot space, and it cost me $35,000.00 on road.  I can still buy one for the same price.

It has now done 809,000 klms, and I replaced the transmission at 770,000 klms with a used one from a wreck.

Ugly thing to look at, but it has proven itself, do you think?

Wink

Isn't it expensive to run on diesel rather than lpg Aussie?
Does it still have the original motor after the 800 thousand kms?

If ssangyong wanna be players, they need to hire a new guy to name the cars.

Stavic
Rexton
Musso
Kyron

All crap names, and when cars are all much of a muchness, the name is a major selling point.

Yes, original motor.  Last week, we drove 3941 klms and used 447 litres of diesel.

Not as economical as LPG but far, far more reliable.

The body of the vehicle.  Or does it have an actual chassis?

Oi, I am no mechanic!   But, doing my best, yes it has a chassis.  There is both a front and rear plate onto which everything seems to be fixed.....I think.

Why do you ask?
