Well, if the libs get in, they are gunna sell it anyway. So, the state is in between a bad government and a lack of an alternative government.

The state is broke, that is the problem.

The New South Wales Opposition says it is concerned by reports the Government has completed the privatisation of its electricity assets, a move which will raise an estimated $5 billion.

Today's Australian newspaper says electricity retailers Integral Energy and Country Energy have been bought by Origin Energy.

In announcements on the stock exchange this morning, Origin has requested a halt to trading while AGL has confirmed it spent $13 million on its bid offer but did not acquire any assets.

State Treasurer Eric Roozendaal has foreshadowed an announcement later today.

The report says retailer EnergyAustralia has been acquired by TRUenergy.

Origin and TRUenergy have also bought the rights to trade the output from power stations.

Opposition treasury spokesman Mike Baird says the sale process is flawed.

"This transaction is madness, it is literally giving away billions of dollars," he said.

"We cannot afford to give that money away. Any premier or treasurer that oversees something that moves from a fire sale to a charity giveaway has absolutely nothing to be proud of."

Yes but sometimes it is the only option.

I think that after Rees got the punt over it the idea should be dead as far as Labor is concerned.

Tactically Labor should let the Liberals do it and then crucify them over it.

The way it stands now the liberals will get the benefit of it and Labor will cop the criticism, a truly stupid move politically.

We all know the benefits are very short lived.

The financial benifits are almost non existant.

However the benifit of avoiding 3/4 of a decade of regular blackouts has some merit.

NO public utility OR essential service should EVER be privatised.

Ever.

For ANY reason.  Angry Angry Angry Angry
