That would be a NO - I support giving refuge to genuine refugees and believe that they have the right to arrive and request assistance.

The point I am making is just how opportunistic and cynical that all the hype and fearmungering about boat people is in reality when the Air arrivals are much higher in volume (and always have been), get no attention and generate no fear or votes at all.

Giving people a fair go is an old Australian tradition - unfortunatly it is almost dead.

Well they are coming from highly skilled countries with an abundance of skilled workers - we should be gratefule that they honour us with their presence and of course expert knowledge and skills!

or even a hospital building industry. from todays papers nothing has improved in that dept since all the wailing and tours by the Labs and money spent  or should we say "wasted" in their efforts to convince us all they ARE doing something!!

maybe ford or holden could give them a job in their own countries??.. or better still get some sewage plumbers over there and get them started on building a better country better than the hovels they are leaving for someone else to live in..We the West no how to do it..we need to get in and help them.. not just throw money into a country that is as corrupt as anything... fat lot of good that has done for the past 50 years..

Gillard's Boat people law has a massive leak.
Recall how recently more than 300 boat people arrived for processing, nearly all were "boys" and virtually all had lost their identity papers.

What was even more amazing was that most claimed to be under 18 years of age. But they were able to sail across the seven seas in a leaky boat!

And more amazing that the majority could not even remember their birthdate, but luckily they could remember how old they were.


These "boys" were even more lucky when after they arrived were then told that as they were under 18 they'd be classified as minors.

And what a perk that was as when these "boys" or minors  get their permanent residency status, they can then sponsor the rest of their family members so that they can come freely to Australia.
Because once they turn 18 before they land, then they do not have the right to sponsor their family.

Further, these "boys" by saying that they were under 18 get the luxury of motel accomodation rather than the long term detention centre accomodation.
Sure these "boys" go to the detention centre for processing, but once they learn that a) you get the private motel accomodation if you say you're under 18, and b) it is a lot easier to bring your family out, then suddenly they all are drinking from the fountain of youth.


Yes it certainly looks like the Gillard open door policy on boat people works.
So much so that even Pakistanis are allowed to claim Afghani refugee status!
And Gillard's policy is very popular overseas, soon they'll need to install traffic lights inthe Pacific.
