Approximately 13 000 refugee places have been granted under Australia’s Humanitarian Program each year (since 2000).

SO there IS a queue.

There are millions of refugees worldwide in camps, most of them waiting for resettlement for years, as there are only about 20 countries that do resettle refugees.

If there were no boat arrivals, all 13 000 places would be filled by such refugees, waiting for years, in some cases.

Every boat arrival, by paying roughly $15,000/head to people smugglers, elbows aside a camp-dweller - by definition, a poorer, less fortunate, longer-suffering refugee.

SO boat people are queue jumpers, they are paying to be able to shove aside the less fortunates.

Asylum-seekers who arrive by plane, and who make up the bulk of refugee claims, are allowed to live in the community.The High Court has recently ruled that detention for boat riff-raff as opposed to plane riff-raff is unjust under Australian law.

Not "good enough for them"? The Australian High Court of do-gooders has found this to be correct.

Almost everyone who emmigrated to the New World between the 16th and 19th centuries did so for political reasons. Most were persecuted for terrorism or various political crimes. Continental European protestants headed to America because of the political climate back home. Irish Catholics emmigrated or were transported for the same reasons.

Instead of terrorism, they called it treason.

Interesting that modern ethnic suburbs are now called ghettoes. If you visit any old gold rush town from the 1860s, you'll find the German section, the Chinese section, the Irish, Kanack and Indian sections.

It's funny how some things never change.
