Haha - there's only one character who makes comments like that.

I have no aboriginal blood personally (at least I don't think I do) - but my cousin is married to an aborigine - a lovely man and a professional chef. Their 5 children (including triplets) have gone or are going through uni and the oldest has a doctorate in medicine. The others are teachers or studying. My cousin is an RN who has fostered dozens of abandoned Koori babies and I'm proud of her. She loves her husband's people and helps those who can't help themselves.

Aborigines growing up in the right circumstances with similar advantages to us are no different to anyone else.

mantra,

The distaste that some Anglo-Aussies feel towards Aboriginals is actually deep down a recognition of what they feel they are becoming. They feel "trapped in the middle", because they barged in on another people here, having absolutely no respect AT ALL for their language, customs, values, traditions and culture, and they brushed them to the side. They now feel the same thing happening to them with all the non-Anglo immigrants who come here (most of whom are highly-educated skilled people), who they see displacing and superseding them so to speak (or so they imagine). So instead of focusing on those people and the benefits they bring to Australia, they point at the tiny little fraction of refugees who come here, and convince themselves the two are one in the same. If they goto a doctor and find him Indian they imagine in their mind he's a boat person who came here a few years ago, who stole a job from an "Aussie".

I know Abu. The ignorance of the xenophobes is truly astounding. It has to stem from fear and a lack of education.

It does get nauseating though - the same old bigotry over and over again. Small minds obviously.

codswal,

When you correct the multitude of spelling & grammar mistakes in that post, and reform it to resemble something like English then I might consider responding.

Until then, I'd suggest you make friends with the boat people and ask them if they'll sneak you into their English classes.

Abu - Codswallop has a drinking problem. When it's sober - it's a little more intelligible. In the meantime its' posts are just insulting.

As I've already said - let's have a referendum on this issue and see exactly what the majority of Australians think.

A referendum would only be of use if the voters were adequately informed about the issue.

This report would be a good start:

http://www.aph.gov.au/library/pubs/BN/sp/Asylumfacts.htm

Let's see...

1. Illegals are flooding into Australia by the thousands. Brought here by criminal people smugglers (who said crime doesn't pay?), aided and abetted by a weak, pathetic Australian government and all the do gooders (many of whom I'm sure have a vested, i.e. financial interest in keeping these illegals coming - lawyers, social workers, etc.).

2. Said illegals are living a life of luxury in 'detention centres' (or motels) with all the essentials - a warm bed, TV, phone, Internet access, etc. while they wait for their claims to be processed. All courtesy of the Australian taxpayer. Meanwhile, thousands of Australians who can no longer afford to buy a home or pay private rent are living rough out on the streets and in cars, etc. while they wait years for public housing.

3. When said illegals are granted residency here, they continue to be a drain on the taxpayers of Australia because most of them never get a job. And, despite do gooder claims to the contrary, they MUST be getting priority for public housing (ahead of the abovementioned Australians living rough). Because, I've never seen or heard of a boat person living on the streets.

I think that would be sufficient to adequately inform the voters. For now, at least.

(Sorry about taking so long to get back to this, I've been at work)

How many is implied by 'the thousands'? That could mean two thousand. That is hardly an inundation.

Agreed. But you could say this about all immigration, not just the boat people.

Any stats?

I find it very insulting that you insinuate that I drink..you are a very rude person  I am aware of that, but this is more than rude I find it slanderous, even on a place like this it can still see you in trouble.

you dont mind being called a murderer or your ancestors being called murderers.. thats for you to worry about..

but when someone does object doesnt give you the right to assassinate their character because you happen to hide behind a silly name.

we are all well aware on these boards that the only thing you are capeable of,is nasty personal attacks.... hit and run style.

hardly debateing in my book.

just for the record do not repeat your lies  again.. I find them very offensive. thankyou..

Around 6,000 per year since Rudd opened the doors.
And most stay, around 95%.
And then these 5,700 bring in their family members (parents, children, siblings).

Can you explain why people who come to Australia legally would then need to spend money on lawyers, social workers etc?

What concern is it of yours when I post on this board? Why would you even notice?

You are the one who is incredibly rude and if you get a little bit back sometimes - too bad.

As far as being slanderous - the outrageous references you've made about me and others have been noted and kept. When you throw mud - expect some to be thrown back.
