Alright Gizmo - don't get your knickers in a knot.
Don't shoot the messenger.

If you happen to know then tell us up front.
I didn't know & went to the Customs website for advice.
If their advice is misleading it's not my fault.

I did not misread it.

There used to be sort of an odd-and-ends store in the Dubbo civic center that sold a bunch of swords. You could pick them up and fool around with them in the store; they weren't behind cabinets or anything like that.

Mind you, this was in 1994. I just remember this because I was like 8 or so at the time and really wanted to buy one.

I think that was back before people started using them in street fights...

Now it's even illegal to carry a pocket knife....

1 Australian dollar = 1.00500 U.S. dollars

It has passed parity.

Gee, I remember when I carried a Ghurka Knife through the Australian Airport after returning from the Himalaya. I declared it, but the guy held the thing up and said "not bad" and passed me through.
Them was the days and that was just the 80's.

Regarding Scuba Gear.
Go into a Shop, have someone tell you all about the product and then go away and get it sometimes at 60% cheaper online.
Electronic stuff is not something you would buy online though - very wise to steer away from such stuff. Seen too many Divers with online Regs, Computers and Cameras go bung deep underwater.
A lot of Dive Shops have 'shut up shop' or forced to move further inland where the lease/rents are cheaper.
(This year, a lot of shops in the Campbelltown area are not carrying on due to the new hike in rates. Eg. Video shop told to pay a 5 years lease, rather than 2 year and at an extra rise of 30%.)

Some people a few houses up from my parents just forked out $175,000 for extensions to their house due to money made on Ebay.
Personally I think they got ripped on the extensions.
A lot of crooks are stealing more so these days because of the availability of Ebay to sell stolen goods. No longer do they have to do it down at the Pub.

I agree Gizmo, there was a lot of advantages to having a very low dollar in comparison to the USA buck.

My cousin tore a picket off a fence & smashed a bloke`s skull with it.  It gave us the edge that we needed to survive a very outnumbered situation.  Ban pickets, so more whiteys can be bashed!

Just ordered a new custom bow from the States. Wish I could have afforded a second one as well.
Should have it by Xmas.

Bows & arrows are not allowed through customs.
Looks like you struck out.

Wow!

Then 4 of my 11 bows hanging on the wall and a hundred plus arrow shafts must be figments of my imagination. Oh and the hundreds of other archers on the forums that have been ordering bows for years overseas.

Like I said, it will be here by xmas.

Stick that in ya pipe & smoke it.

Yeah, but QLD, NSW and VIC have NO restriction on Bows.......
I know, because I have compound bow on top of my wardrobe....

Swords are a naughty here in NSW, but bows aren't....neither are bayonets...

Basically, bows CAN be imported into Australia....the restriction is State by State...

So your post that bows and arrows were illegal imports into Australia as a whole was WRONG......

And QLD pretty much doesn't ban anything.....not sure on crossbows...

That's pretty right Gizmo,

No State has restrictions on Bows although WA is pushing for it. Crossbows are a licenced item under most weapons legislation with the possible exception of SA...but I believe that may have now come in line with the other States.

Even so, you are able to import Crossbow and general Cat A and Cat B, and Cat M, firearms but there is extra paperwork that needs to be handled and I think the items need to be sent directly to your local gun shop to have it registered before you can take possession.

You can even import an African drum with a goatskin head. When you buy them in Africa, you pay an extra $20 or so for a certificate that states that it has been treated with radiation or saturated with salt for 2 weeks.

I'd suggest that every African drum that's imported into Australia or the EEC have a similar certificate that states that they have been treated. How many do you suppose have actually been treated?

I'd make a guess at a round number.

They are usually filled in by government officials at the airport in countries like Guinea and Mali. It's a nice little earner.

Australian customs sprayed my djembe (African drum) with insecticide, which was fair enough, but if I didn't have the certificate, it would have been firewood.

I want a Zulu Impi shield and spear. Anybody know where I can buy one without having to actually go out and fight a Zulu army?
