Independents Holding Australians Hostage: Palmer

Quote:
Billionaire mining boss Clive Palmer says the majority of Australians want another federal election and resent being "held hostage" by the independent MPs who returned Labor to power yesterday.

"The majority of Australians want another election because they want to be the people that wield the power in the country, not a couple of independents,"

I'd be more inclined to think that the majority of Australians don't want a politically-biased filthy-rich businessman telling them what they supposedly want or should do either.

Clive's wealth holds him hostage over his own lies...

It’s not the truth, Clive
September 14, 2010 – 2:57 pm, by Tobias Ziegler

On last night’s Q&A Clive Palmer said something that was blatantly false:
let’s never forget that the Labor Party lost 16 seats in this election and that Tony Abbott made the biggest swing of any Opposition leader in the history of the Commonwealth. Let’s never forget that fact, because that’s the truth.
No, it’s not.
He even repeated the falsehood:
He’s the leader of the Opposition who has got the biggest swing of any Opposition leader in the history of the Commonwealth.
It’s still not true, Clive. And it’s very simple to demonstrate. We don’t need to look any further back than 2007.

that he didn’t understand the tax implication of increasing super contributions. Tanya Plibersek had to point it out to him.

Palmer also claimed that when he was viciously attacking the RSPT, he was “unaware” that it was to replace the royalties rather than add to them. Which is weird, because I’m not a mining magnate and I was aware of that...

I blame seeing too many bands when I get caught out indulging in a bit of selective hearing.

I wonder what ol' Clive blames it on?
Blasting? Heavy earth moving machinary? The sound of wads of cash being knocked together?

LMAO!  Grin

IMHO Palmer, like the Opposition (and like some of the Opposition supporters here) seldom read about or quote anything factual, because they neither care about or simply don't want to know the truth - The only thing they are interested in are their own opinions and how much crap they can shove down people's throats in some sort of an attempt to convince others "ad nauseum" that they actually know what they are talking about. Palmer as a supporter of the Nationals has exposed himself as being a prime example of what the Opposition are really all about.

Voters still unimpressed with major parties: Newspoll
Tue Sep 14, 2010

There would be another hung parliament if Australians went to the polls today, according to the first Newspoll since the federal election.

The poll, published in The Australian today, has Labor and the Coalition locked at 50-50 on a two-party preferred basis.

Prime Minister Julia Gillard leads Tony Abbott in the preferred prime minister stakes, 50 per cent to 34 per cent.

The poll also found 48 per cent of voters agreed with the formation of a minority Labor government, compared to 36 per cent who did not.

But an overwhelming 59 per cent believe the Government will not serve a full term.

The poll also shows support for both major political parties has fallen since the election, with a shift towards the Greens.

Labor's primary vote dropped from 38 per cent at the August 21 election to 34 per cent last weekend.

The Coalition's primary vote, meanwhile, fell from 43.6 per cent to 41 per cent over the same period.

The Greens and other category candidates saw a combined increase in the primary vote of about 8 per cent.

The primary vote for the Greens rose from 11.8 per cent on election day to 14 per cent, while the primary vote for others jumped from 6.6 per cent to 11 per cent.

Newspoll is something that I have very little respect for. It never fails to show the opposition as "Favourites" to a better degree for anything in 99 out of a 100 of it's polls.

While at the same time the other "Unbiased" polls generally agree in a more "balanced" outcome for the same issues.

Newspoll - The Telegraph - The Australian - Worth about a pinch of salt when it come to truthfulness about the facts of what's really happening in politics. Foxtel - Sky News - Pretty much as unreliable too.

No, the lack of infrastructure not being built over the last 40 to 50 years is that governments of all stamps have diverted money to their own social engineering schemes.

Doen't matter how much money they collect in taxes they spend those taxes on bolsterintg their position within their constituency.

Hence no infrastructure. I begrudge my taxes going to support serial single mothers for instance. There are many more social engineering schemes that can be done away with. Governments should confine themselves to only a very limited area of spending. Defence, justice and major infrastructure. Let the community look after itself and get out of our way.

Surely you're not asking both state and federal governments to stop micro managing every aspect of our lives in their pursuit of implementing a quasi-facist nanny state?  Grin

That's fool's talk.

and the polls BEFORE the election had the greens on 14-16% and yet they only polled 11.9%. so based on that experience it woudl be resonable to say that the greens electoral support if an election were held today would be 11.9%. for reasons no one really understands, 3rd party support is typically higher in pre-election polls than actual elections.

thats a pretty silly comment since newspoll showed libs in the lead just ONCE in the last 3 years (nearly 90 polls).
