No minister for Education and Research
Sep 13th, 2010 at 9:40am

Just heard there is no longer a minister for education and research.

But I bet you there is a minister for sports and there is now a minister for social inclusion Smiley LOL

That says everything about where we are heading.

Folks are dumb where I come from....

When I worked at the Pharma company in Oz the Minister who my boss met a couple of times about Research related issues was Kim Carr, Minister for Innovation.

You telling me that's no longer there?

UNIVERSITIES have attacked the failure to appoint an education minister in Julia Gillard's ministerial shake-up, forcing the Prime Minister to defend the changes today.

While several cabinet level ministers will retain responsibility for education, responsibilities for schools, universities and postrgraduate studies will be split between three ministers.

It follows Julia Gillard's decision to dismantle the superportfolio of Education and Workplace Relations that she presided over as deputy Prime Minister.

The decision means the Department of Education led by Lisa Paul will have two ministerial masters and a parliamentary secretary Jacinta Collins responsible for Education, Employment and Workplace Relations.

Under the changes former environment minister Peter Garrett will take responsibility for schools, a move criticsed for the opposition after he presided over the home insulation debacle.

Why does it take three Labor ministers to share the one portfolio?

Furthermore, it's rather concerning that neither appear to be ministering tertiary education, no wonder universities are disgruntled.

It sounds to me as though they would rather not have one individual minister entrusted with the responsibility of imminent failure, rather plan to share the blame.

Pass the buck!

If Garrett cant manage a simple insulation project, then what hope does he have of handling primary and secondary schools, or is this the point, he was never actually meant to succeed?

All part of Bill Shortens succession to presidency,(god) as a viable alternative as a republic of Australia?

Why else would they line their cabinet with the worst possible ministers, those who have failed so terribly prior if this wasn't their intention?

Bill Shorten knows exactly what he's doing...it's why he's split the portfolios so as to cut and shut the blame when the time comes.

Penny Wongs another failure, it's like they have intentionally lined their cabinet with those who were on their way out anyway, the dregs.

Not dopes, they have intentionally set the cabinet up for failure, they will blame it on their minority governments status however, (woe to them)... argue that it's failed because they are being blocked from taking affirmative action by those nasty independents, coalition, and greens....this and when the times right, when people are well and truly screaming out for change, for something to be done due to it being a complete mess, they will argue that their hands are tied, and argue that the only practical solution is their latest product...an Australian republic.

.....Clever, but not clever enough!

Cool..I might be wrong, but given the cabinet they have 'installed' I think this might be the way of it.
