It was Carter that actually planted the seeds that eventually grew into the GFC ...

Carter started the deregulation. Bush took it to an extreme, which facilitated the excesses that led to the GFC.

Keating began the Telstra sell-out, which Howard took to an extreme. That facilitated abuses which, in part, justifies the NBN (it will break Telstra's monopoly on the "last mile" to consumers' homes). We have Howard's extremism to thank for the NBN. Funny, that.

What is it, with the right-wing and extremes?

Quote:
but it wwas however, 200 years of american economic policy that created (and maintained) the environment that nurtured such disasters. and that environment - unrestrained capitalism - remains unchanged and ready to grow another economic disaster some time in the future.

By some reports, the very near future.  Sad

There would be roughly an equal number of left and right extremists throughout our checkered history.

Extremsists almost always fail and are bad or even evil. But your definition of 'extreme' is ridiculous. you call anyone 'extreme' if their attitude is significantly different to yours. That is a tad arrogant.

Nope, I was agreeing with your point of view David, something must have been lost in the translation.

The solution to extremists is pretty extreme, but they should be wiped from the face of the earth, no place for them in a civilised society.

Without them, we'd be ignorant of the dangers.

James, they're what's known as Trolls. Trolls crave attention. Responding in any way gives them what they want. They're best ignored.

People in positions of power (and president of anything is a position of power, if only minor) tend to be confident. That leads them to ignore underlings, particularly new ones.

To succeed, you'll need to act confident. The problem is, unless you really want to be a total prat, you need to avoid actually being confident. Confidence and certainty go hand in hand. The problem has been addressed many times:
ignorance more frequently begets confidence than does knowledge
--Charles Darwin (introduction  to 'The Descent of Man' 1871)

The more that wise people learn
The more they come to appreciate
How much they don't know.
--Attributed to Confucius, but probably apocryphal (like most sayings attributed thus)

A fool is certain. An ignorant fool, absolutely so.
-- Source lost

And my favourite, the Dunning–Kruger effect:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dunning%E2%80%93Kruger_effect

Remember that most people in power are afflicted. Learn how to influence them. You're unlikely to defeat them, but you can outlast them. Or manipulate them but be careful not to lose yourself in the process.

BTW qikvtec is a Troll. Best ignored.
