We may have problems here, but they pale in comparison to the US. Their unemployment rate is double. We don't have to queue up for food stamps, our murder rate per capita is much, much lower, it's a much safer place to live, and will continue to be so, if we do not follow the American trend of Islamophobia.

Besides that the American economy is a basket case, they are on the verge of the next great depression.

The only thing we have to thank America for is our burgeoning obesity rate, and the butchering of the English language, oh! and getting us involved in a couple of illegal wars.

Now be honest Andrei..the USA's economy is in a mess and has been for over a decade.
Low taxes and a multi trillion dollar national debt not to mention the huge debts all the states and businesses are knocking up..you cant honestly believe that a country can last long under those conditions..crikey you criticize the aussie govt for extremely low levels of debt and yet you praise the USA and their low tax, low service, high debt regime!
A middle class family and a business is socially and economically better off in almost every other western country with responsibly higher taxes and prices than in the USA.
Our company and a lot of science based industry doesn't even do  business in the USA anymore, we used to source a lot of equipment from there but now all our scientific equipment and supplies come from Europe, Australia and Asia.

how many jobs for the local and how many for the new arrival ..??

Oh ok no argument on economics so lets dumb it down to "Stop the Boats"

How about in the United States I pay half for energy and petrol you do and the Greens want you to be paying even more?

Sound good?

Now give us the figures for Minimum Wage.
And the number of workers ON Minimum Wage.

I think you will find that $7.25 is the Min Fed Wage.
I will let you supply the number for those on that scale.

You'd like to compare the number of minimum wage workers in a 310 million people country with that of a 20 million people country?

That would tell you what exactly?

I will readily admit right now that there are more minimum wage workers in the United States than Australia.

It might give an insight as to who can afford what.
Might also explain WHY some things are cheaper.

It`s only because our prosperous quarry economy is shared by our small population.

SOME things are cheaper????

Here everything is cheaper!!!

I paid 75c per litre to fill up my car on Tues. What do you pay?

You know why? Because Australia charges 84c in the dollar tax and the USA charges less than half that.

The USA SHOULD charge more tax on petrol.

Anything to discourage the gas guzzling mentality of americans , diminish their reliance on foreign oil , encourage research and development into green technology and alleviate the environmental costs of car pollution.

As you said earlier....310M compared to 22M?

Still a lot of tax coming in, even from those on Min pay.

Meanwhile, back here in Aus....

Unemployment...Down!
Stockmarket...Up!

Laughing!!!

San Deiago , Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, Washington
are all like a Hollywood movie set.Great Front no substance, just like the US economy.

Any comment on why the USA continues to sell it's future to China via treasury bonds.
Any comment on the fact that they are now using the Zimbabwe trick of printing money to sustain there economy.
Any comment on the fact their economy is so screwed their chief banker has this to say 2 days ago:
"On Wednesday night, Mr Bernanke told a congressional committee the outlook for the American economy was "unusually uncertain".
http://www.news.com.au/business/breaking-news/dollar-up-on-bank-comments/story-e...
Any comment on the 9.6% unemployment
Any comment on the fact that unemployment claims fell by 27K yet the unemployment figures rose, you do know what that means right? How can benefit claims go down yet unemployment increase, my guess is more people stopped looking & dropped off the radar, it's more realistic than they've been employed & scarier to think what they'll do.

Over to you Andrei

I love the place but if I were you Andrei it'd be a very short contract I signed & I'd have an escape plan.

No , not mad at all.

Americans pay too little for petrol and as such use it like water.

What are the state debt levels of California again?
Probably be easier to pay a reasonable level of tax than to leave a mountain of debt  for your kids  Smiley
