It doesn't matter what amount of votes he had , what amount of seats he won , what the 2 PP was as labor are in appointed by the independents due to needing a 76 seat minimum to form government ...

Did the coalition get to 76 seats with or without the Indi's ? no

This is the political system you chose to vote in , did we here the Libs / coalition have a whinge when the reverse happened in 1998 no...

How many seats did labour win?  The coalition went to the Australian People in 1998 as a united party, what was their combined total seats won?

It's indisputable the ALP won the 2PP result at the time; I recall being livid at the time because I didn't vote for the Coalition.

Politicians and Nappies need to be changed often and for the same reason.

One trouble with political jokes is that they often get elected.

Labor currently has more 2Pps than the Coalition:

Greens + Labor more PV than coalition

Of course, what really counts is seats:
Labor 76, Coalition 74

Either of the 2 bigger parties would of needed the help of the Indi's to form government as neither had the majority on their own as very clear by begin a hung Parliament.. Using our current political system Labor didn't win , Coalition dint win not matter how bad at maths you are any of party's need the full 76 seats to win outright...

Abbott and his cronies quickly need to suck it up and realise the Independents are just that... The Libs are just upset because they thought them being ex nationals would support them to form government but clearly forgot why they left the national party in the first place to run as a Independent member..

If anything the coalitions previous antics with the ex nationals cost them the election by ostracizing these exact people they needed to form government... Why abuse , hang out to dry , bully people when they are in your party ...then when convenient try to say it is okay lets get back in bed together it is all forgotten...

Exactly.

Labor has been ahead in the ongoing 2PP vote count since about 6pm yesterday.

Christopher Pyne
was on Lateline after this, saying "we have more votes and more preferences that the govt"

I assume he meant 2PP since he talked about votes and prefs as 2 different things...

I'd give him the benefit of the doubt that he hadn't seen the updated figures, except that the Coalition has been consistently lying about this for about a week knowing the 2PP vote was too close to call and that the live tally is (was?) temporarily excluding 8 seats likely to favour Labor.

What kind of a party lies about getting a majority of votes? One that thinks of their voters as useful idiots...

There are probably millions of Aussies who take their word for it, and they know a lot of these will never hear the update or put the seat and primary vote counts into context.

As for the people on this forum who are informed but still repeat the lies...

What a great bloody sook this preferential issue has become. It has existed for yonks and it is a far preferable than not having it otherwise there would never be an opportunity to have any decent government.

Problem for the Libs is that more people DIDN'T want them as a 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th etc etc choice. I had them dead last on both ballot papers...they are the main reason I mark every box.

Mr Katter has said the removal of Kevin Rudd as prime minister was a key factor in his decision and "it would have been a different outcome" in Mr Rudd was still Labor leader.

"I was extremely angry and so was my state" when Mr Rudd was ousted, he has said, although he has also said he likes Ms Gillard and Wayne Swan and would have no problem working with them.

"I like Julia Gillard and Wayne Swan, you know, I've been lavish in my praise for him, so I would have no difficulty in working with their government whatsoever," he has said.

It is unclear if that means Mr Katter would back a confidence motion in Labor if Ms Gillard emerges with a workable majority.  But he has insisted he will act as an Independent above all else in the next parliament.

He has denied he was offered any personal political gain from Mr Abbott in return for his backing: "I went for north Queensland, I went for my tribe, my homeland".

He has listed the mining tax, mandated ethanol and the future of the emissions trading scheme as other factors.  He has said there did not appear to be much difference between the parties on broadband, but acknowledged he was "not an expert".

Katter lives out in the sticks of QLD .. I actually live in his electorate and voted for Rudd like the majority of people here did because he has done a lot in the 20 years for my electorate .. QLD were upset out how it happened..

In reality you actually should vote for your Member of Parliament based what they can do for you not based on the party or who your parents , grandparents voted for ....

The Independents know this hence why they split from the national party and why we will see more Independents at the next election..

People want action from their members and the current nationals will see what deals the Indi's get now and will make the switch to that or the party will run separate from the Liberals preferencing the Indi's
