Lamenting the shift in the Australian psyche, away from the egalitarian ideal of the fair-go - and the rise of short-sighted pollies, who worship the 'Growth Fairy' and seek to divide and conquer!

Ahhh the schadenfreude is jussssst so delicious!

Suck it in lib fanbois, you have three years of opposition, irrelevant opposition after 1/7/11 and in 2013 you will be buried in the Gillard labor landslide. I expect the Nats to self-destruct inside of 6 months, BTW.

She hasn't won by an Oakshot...so enjoy your probationary PM while you can, she may very well be the shortest serving 'elected' PM our nations ever seen.

But don't let this rain in on your little parade sunshine.

You bore me skippy.

If only in victory you showed the same class as Abbott did in defeat.

He was lousy. Take away the cl and you get ass!

Sorry, but if you bothered to really watch him on the night of the election, we though wow, the people booed labor and he stopped them, but the next sentence he started his rhetoric and bagging. Same thing happened yesterday.

Get it through your heads, the people did not want either party to have a majority. If the people wanted him, it would have been a land slide. The people told both parties that they hate their guts.

Julia has more or less said that the people have given both major parties a good kick in the bum.

If it is good enough for one side to form a coalition, then same goes for the other.

what utter garbage! did it ever occur to some of you twits that labor was on the way down and libs on the way up? everypone knew it - including Gillard and she called the election just as support for each other crossed over. This election was not a repudiation of the major parties but was in fact the electorate merely failing to comprehensively choose one over the other. It really is that simple. An election held 3 months ago would have had Gillard (actually RUdd!) just over the line while in 3 months time Abbott would have won a majority.  It would seem you dopes have never watched a race when a challenger comes out of nowhere and charges to the finish line only to finish dead heat. In your minds both atheletes are losers and would say the real winner was the one who finished third. Do you see how silly you look?  A little history and a little persepective would declare that this election was no more 'defining' than a super-close result. nothing else can be drawn from it.

The greens did well. The democrats have done the same and look at them (if you can find them!)

It would be difficult to construct a less accurate post if i tried. lets see the errors...

1) 3 years... In your dreams if day 1 was any example!
2) irrelevant opposition? with 1 vote margin in the HoR they are anythign by irrelevant.
3) 1/7/11 moves the senate from being held to ransom by the greens,  fielding and Mr X to being held by just the greens. If you think that somehow changes anything you need to look at the way teh Greens and labor voted in the last senate. NOT TOGETHER. no reason to beleive that will change anytime soon.
4) Nats arent the party you need to worry abotu self-destruction. Id look at the ALP - especially if the govt falls aprt sooner than expected.

I don't know why people keep saying that the results of this election is representative of Australians being "fed up" with the same old two party song and dance system. The reason why both of the primary parties did so poorly is because very few people actually liked either the candidates. Come next election things are going to be back to their old selves again.

thats because minority govts usually replace govts of the OPPOSITE presuasion. they are parties on the way UP and not just making it. and thats what would have happened here if the independants had chosen the party the country chose as well.

What was the Labor primary vote and what was the Liberal Party primary vote?
For now lets keep the minor parties the Greens and Nationals out of the argument and concentrate on the 2 major parties and their primary vote

43% vs 38%. pretty conclusive. and you cant keep the nats out of it because they are a formal coalition. that woudl be nothing but statistical lunacy. but if you want to believe that labor got more votes than the coalition (there's that inconvenient word again) then go for it. what do you plan to do with the LNP in QLD? throw it away? split it? make a guess or...???

Deborah do you realize that the Greens want an ETS which will mean we, the everyday Australian family, will have to pay more for our energy?

Can you tell me why it is s a GOOD thing to make us all pay more??

It is never good, but neither was the GST.
Someone has to pay for what we rip out of the environment, and you don't want the mining tax. If you want things like sustainable forests and renewable energy resources. You have to put something back. If it is not acceptable for the big companies to do this, then who is left?

Just consider one fact, when you discuss your lovely environment -

All of the reductions made by the developed world in emissions from the Kyoto Protocol were wiped out FIVE TIMES over by the People's Republic Of China emissions increases.

Now tell me again how making our energy bills more expensive is going to save the world on its own?

So your  answer is to do nothing? To throw your hand up because it is too hard.

And your answer is to cause ordinary Australian families to pay more for their energy bills to achieve nothing?

Sorry but that's irresponsible in the extreme.

People can't afford higher energy bills and neither should they have to!!

You seem to struggle to answer with my question though - why do I pay infinitely less for energy in the United States than you do?

Your opinion, which you are entitled too. I don't know, nor do I pretend to know why.
Not in the mood for your poo right now. Sorry, a little upset. My cousin in Christchurch seems to be missing. So I am not replying to anymore stuff okay. I can't seem to keep control of my feelings right now. sorry.

I'm sure you cousin will turn up alive and well.  Communications would be in tatters.
