The Independents stated this morning that its a shame that they had to pick one of the two (ALP/Coalition) - as both Parties, in their view, were real 'flat' choices.

...I hope we vote for a 'majority' of Independents next Election and dispense with Twiddle-Dee and Twiddle-Dum (ALP/Coalition) altogether.

Don't forget the Democrats ...but I'm sure they will rise up to the challenge when the Republic comes around.

the independants have shown themselves to be either

1/ indecisive or

2/ drunk with power and toying with Aust  or

3/ powerless and unethical.

they have so far harmed the reputation of all independants and proven why the party stysem prevails

It's not in the interests of the independents to have another election. They'll milk this for what they can get. It wouldn't surprise me at all if they backed Labor. At least that way, they can have up to 3 years. If they backed the coalition, there would be a double dissolution in July next year and the Coalition would put a lot of resources into getting their electorates back.

They could accomplish a lot in 3 years.

Ted Mack says that it is in the interests of the Independents and Labor if the independents stay where they are, and back Labor (of course); he says that it is in the interests of the Liberals to get rid of the Independents.
He is backing the independents to back a Labor minority govt.
I don't think it is a problem, because the Senate will block any more of the commie legislation they try to put through, and then there'll be a double dissolution. Lets have a double dissolution on the basis of death duties that the Greens want to bring in.
That should make people think about who they are voting for.,

With respects to the independents, the 3 king-makers, Julia Gillard has done little in the way of negotiating, rather has pandered to them by handing them fist fulls of cash.

They keep throwing around the term "a stable government" however, a minority government is far from stable, nor is it likely to last the mile.

Now, when Julia Gillard was ahead in the two party preferred vote she advised 'the independents' to decide in accordance with the two party preferred vote, as this reflected the wishes of the people, well apparently...now it appears Gillard has done a back-flip and forgotten all about the people and has recommended the independents now back her irrespective of Abbott being ahead in the two party preferred vote. Coupled with this, these independents own electorates preferred a more conservative government.

Katters father, Bob Sr was a labor MP, and whilst he may think he's secure where he is under Gillards wing,I doubt a post Gillard Labor party will be so accommodating, when Bob the builder is forced to resume menial non-king making tasks such as pleasing his own electorate again 12 to 18 months from now if Gillard manages to form a non-stable minority government. And when Katter returns to his electorate, just how eager do you think any of them will be to support the creator of a failed Gillard government?

These three Kings think they have the power, but it's a double edged sword...one side carving their future, the other side cutting their throats.

And wont it be amusing if by the time Katter returns, a gay-parents group has started up in his electorate.

...

Cool

If that happens we're back to the start but worse, 75 a piece.
Then we will have to have another election.

Another election is the only way to escape instability.

Reform is good - and long overdue!

Now we have a semblance of democracy - and the LibLabs are on notice to start delivering on sustainability and the inclusive egalitarianism of the 'fair go'!

Yep good on 'em. They've made improvements already....very encouraging.

Yes, I shouldn't imagine he'll be overly popular among his own electorate without having returned with the goods.
After having delivered them both an unstable minority government hell bent on increasing taxes minus Abbotts generous health care offer.

Hey what's going on? do we vote more than once on your poll James?
You, adelcrow and myself does not equal 5 votes.

Anyway, that's beside the point. They should take as long as they need to decide. The country is running along smoothly, better than for a long while to be honest.

Although, I can't really fathom why it would take this long to decide. It seems that there could be 2 going with labor and one with the coalition, the odd man out may have to jump over to the other side to avoid going back to the polls. I'm just saying that from comments I've heard today.

Did you manage to get into the young labor party James?

Yes I did:) Very happy. Can't wait for the Young Labs vs. Young Libs. Can't wait till 2pm. Will be wearing the Craig Thomson shirt that I wore on polling day while handing out how to vote cards for Labor.
