NSW has fixed four year terms. yuck!

What about policies? Oakeshott/Windsor want the NBN and ETS and they want the mining tax as well to pay for infrastructure. Bandt & Wilkie want those as well.

I think as Rob Oakeshott said, the Indies want reform of QT and the house committee system.

If the NSW Libs had been halfway competent they would have won govt last time and Labor would not have lost any NSW seats. Considering the mining tax is supposed to be such a big deal in WA why did WA hardly swing at all?

I agree - much more representative.

Maybe the Senate should be a house of Mayors.

There was a time, when I too favoured the abolition of the States - that was until Howard & Co got control of both Federal Houses and wielded an effective-dictatorship with impunity...

There remains a risk that either of the LibLabs could repeat that counter-productive scenario - and without the States, we would see 'local/regional' electorates rewarded, bribed and punished according to whether or not they were controlled by the same party as the Federal Govt and/or marginal.

Thinking of the Howardian Libs' 'Regional Rorts' here - bad idea!

Lamenting the shift in the Australian psyche, away from the egalitarian ideal of the fair-go - and the rise of short-sighted pollies, who worship the 'Growth Fairy' and seek to divide and conquer!

Agree Equitist, Howard turned me from a Federalist into a States Righter even tho that battle has been effectively lost with the WC judgement in the High Court. States are now just service providers.
