You don't learn to spell (or not) at University, you're supposed to learn that in primary school. When you get a whole generation of people who can't spell and can't do numeracy either (because they actually don't teach that much any more at school, god only knows what you *do* get taught there now), you get that sort of thing in the workforce which, for example, prepares street signs. In case you hadn't noticed, Australia has the same problem, it didn't used to, but it does now. BIG TIME. You should see the appalling level of grammar and spelling in school leavers' cv's - and they're looking for a job. (eventually it will be ok though, because the people reading the cv won't be able to spell either, so you'll get a job - it's the ones who *will* be able to spell who will be seen as a "threat" and end up not getting the job. Don't worry things will work out!) It is the school system, athos, and the inordinate cultural emphasis on *watching television* and the drivel that is on there, ahead of the *written word*. If people *read more*, instead of just listened to stupid television shows and head banger music, they would be better able to spell. Read a book (or even a bloody newspaper) today!
