Apples From N.Z Now Malaysian Pineapples.
Aug 11th, 2010 at 1:57pm

Australian pineapple producers are gearing up to block any move to let fresh Malaysian pines be imported into the country.

The Australian Government is currently working on an import risk analysis to determine if the fruit can be brought into the country safely.

Mark Boyd runs the Central Queensland farm and packing company Tropical Pines.

He says the risk of getting the pineapple disease, ghost rot, should be enough to deny the Malaysians market access.

"We believe there is significant risk attached to importing pineapples from these districts," he says.

"Risks of the introduction of these diseases which can be quite devastating to the industry in Australia, so that is our main concern."

Who can blame the Australian growers.  Apples from New Zealand,  Now Pineapples to be brought in Australia.  What a good way of supporting our farmers.  Then again, what can anyone expect in wally world.
