Government schemes individually profitable
Aug 11th, 2010 at 10:43am

We cry and crow about govenments doing nothing for climate change, but when they do it's seen as a mistake.
What do we do?
Government incentives provide us profit. But we've sacrificed zip.
Is that what we're crying out for? We won't accept sacrifice ourselves, but we will happily enforce profit for those who "do the right thing" at the expense of the more wasteful.
As long as we don't have to pay, then OK.

Its an illogical demand. It's not being respectful of democracy.
We need to do our bit day in day out and not demand anything of our government. They need to be reactive to our actions.
It's us who needs to sacrifice...or should I say, take the lead in sacrifice.

Yes, very true. But it's carbon polluting businesses that create the most emissions, and business is led almost solely by the profit motive.

And this is why we need a market-based solution to carbon emissions.

If we wait for the general population to make a sacrifice, we'll be waiting for a very long time, at least until the global food crisis hits, and then the sacrifice will be involuntary.

We should pay some attention to China's intention to stop exporting wheat.
