I'm listening to The Military Wives Choir.
Each of the 100 members of this choir, which was put together by choirmaster Gareth Malone, has a husband or boyfriend serving with the British Armed Forces in Afghanistan. Their song, "Wherever You Are", which was released yesterday, is based on the letters that some of the wives and girlfriends received from their husbands or boyfriends in Afghanistan and also the letters that the wives and girlfriends sent to their husbands or boyfriends in Afghanistan.
The Military Wives Choir celebrates success with Gareth Malone in London's Oxford StreetAnd the song, composed by Welsh composer Paul Mealor, is almost certain to be this year's Christmas No1. It is the fastest-selling single in Britain for six years, having sold 300,000 copies after just two days on sale. It is outselling the release by this year’s X Factor winners, the girl band Little Mix, by a ratio of 100 to one.
And, on Remembrance Sunday, the Military Wives performed their song in front of the Queen and other members of the Royal Family at the Royal Albert Hall in London.
Proceeds from the sales of the single will go to The Royal British Legion and SSAFA (Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association) Forces Help.
