us rightys take a more pragmatic approach.

so despite the facts that there is no proof men is causing the climate change, or that recently the globe has cooled, or that australia will never effect the global climate, or that rudds ETS sunk, leftys still cling to the idealism ?

I'll take the forward-thinking idealism of lefties, over the backward-clinging dogma of right whingers - any day!

PS Given the irony of your mentioning of the concept pragmatism, I've gotta say that Mozzaok's signature always reminds me that: all to often, the dogma of right whingers eats their pragma! Clearly, this is what the Labs are relying upon the rabid Abbott & Co to unwittingly remind the electorate of...

I choked on my coffee this morning, when electoral analyst Antony Green quipped on ABC News Breakfast about the irony of the Australian newspaper trying to ignore the latest Newspoll...given their recent anti-Lab/pro-Lib squawking...

LOL, look at the OZ headlines, " Abbott closes gap on Rudd" if you didn't read the small print you'd be mistaken for thinking the Libs had done well, but no, its a normal 52/48 to Labor.
Now I think the Lib supporters think Abbott is doing well as he;s not scoring 59-41s but the reality is Abbott has been in hiding for the last three weeks so he actually polls better when he shuts up, something he wont be able to do during an election campaign, when he'll look like a rabbit in a spotlight.

Later this week, I expect that Media Watch and/or Clarke & Dawe will have some poignant analysis, of the dubious and downright dishonest conduct, of the Oz and other patently partisan media outlets...

SUPPORT for Labor has crashed so far in marginal seats in Queensland and western Sydney that the government would lose an election now.

Seats Labor won in 2007 in regional Queensland and outer Sydney, which effectively delivered its victory, are showing swings against the ALP of between 6 per cent and 12 per cent and voters have turned against the Prime Minister.

In Labor-held seats where the Greens' vote is low, support is dramatically shifting from sitting Labor MPs to the Coalition, removing hopes of Labor surviving on preferences and boosting Tony Abbott as the prospective prime minister.

Most voters are dissatisfied with Mr Rudd as Prime Minister in the five seats polled by The Australian, with a high of 61 per cent in western Sydney seat of Lindsay where the Opposition Leader is ahead as the preferred prime minister................

Hang on, folks...the latest Newspoll apparently 'interviewed' and 'weighted' the voting intentions of a total of 1147 Australia-Wide...

They then produced separate tables for a total of 5 marginal seats in Qld and NSW - which begs questions as to the statistical reliability of at least the marginal seat data...

Are we to believe, that they polled a statistically significant number of people in each of these 5 electorates in the first instance!?

I, for one, would like to see the raw data...

Nem, as i am someone who lives in the Lindsay electorate, i will confirm that that result would be pretty much spot on. The only reason the ALP won in 2007 was due to boundary changes, which have now been changed back. The ALP candidate only moved up here last year from North Suburbs of Sydney and has no idea about the area. The ALP are toast next election.
