Newspoll: 52-48 to Labor

Sunday, June 20, 2010 – 11:30 pm, by William Bowe

Full results available from Peter Brent at Mumble. This is a slight improvement on the 51-49 from three weeks ago, and under the circumstances will come as an enormous relief for the Prime Minister.

One sting in the tail is that Labor’s primary vote remains steady on a parlous 35 per cent. The Coalition is down one point to 40 per cent and the Greens are on 15 per cent, one point off their record-breaking effort from three weeks ago. A two-point slack has been taken up by “others” on 10 per cent.

Another sting in the tail is that the preferred prime minister rating has swung to Abbott: Rudd is down three points to 46 per cent and Abbott is up four to 37 per cent, which is respectively a personal worst and the best result achieved by a Liberal leader on Rudd’s watch.

This is despite the fact that the leaders’ approval ratings are basically unchanged. Kevin Rudd’s approval is steady on 36 per cent and his disapproval is up a point to 55 per cent, while Tony Abbott is respectively up a point to 38 per cent and steady on 49 per cent.

Methinks that BOTH the LibLabs will be breathing a sigh of relief, that: over the past two weeks, nothing much has changed for the worse in the polling ...

I would have  more faith in these polls.. if they gave more details about where when they were taken..

when they have a question like prefered PM...it seems ridiculous to me when Abbott has never been PM.shouldnt the current PM be compared to a previous one.well that would make more sense to me!

This is
BAD
news for my ambitions.
Labor
might start tinking
Gillard
is better than
Rudd
and elect her leader.

Don't Let
Gillard
get the leadership for
Liberal Party Sake

LOL, Cods...the mind boggles, over your backwards-looking logic...

Meantime, I'd suggest that: the significance of this particular poll is reflected by the Australian newspaper's notable disinterest in it - apparently, because this poll belies their increasingly partisan and untenable headlines in recent months...

It's starange that tony abbott has such a high disapproval rating.
I can't think of much he has said/done that could cause people to disapprove of him .

his nickname mad monk is probably not a goodie Smiley

perhaps he should be more proactive ?

it's an injustice that the greems preferences seem to automatically go to the alp.

Oh yeah, that's definitely it: Action Man Abbo needs to break his leash and toss off the muzzle - and get out more! The electorate needs to see the Mad Monk for the rabid attack-dog that he is! Roll Eyes

(Excuse the mixed metaphors, folks!)

Sprint, you're a smart man, for a rightard, think about it mate, why would a GREENS supporter give their preference to a climate skeptic party? its Abbott's own fault, if he'd shut his mouth and pulled into line the climate skeptic retards in the Libs and Nats he may have had a chance at snatching a few GREEN preferences, but what self respecting GREEN voter is going to preference a climate change denier party?

Funny hey? I cant even find the poll on the Telegraph site, they probably realise how fvucking stupid they look after the last month of trying their hardest to convince the electorate that they don't like Labor.
I think many people have woken up to the filthy Murdoch press and their lies, Piers will be back on the bottle  snorting his head off and looking for a new woman to assault I suppose.

No matter what spin you put on it sprint, GREENS voters wont preferece a climate change skeptic party, why would they?
You need to stop taking your lead off the like of Ackerman and shamsham, they are not doing you any favours.

It wasn't just the lay parrots, it was some of the pseudo-professionals too - notably the right whinger Journos...

I choked on my coffee this morning, when a bemused electoral analyst Antony Green quipped on ABC News Breakfast, about the irony of the Australian newspaper trying to ignore the latest Newspoll...given their recent anti-Lab/pro-Lib squawking...

Not only, have they recklessly tried to talk the economy into ruin over the proposed mining tax but they've painted previous opinion polls as death rattles for the Rudd Govt - and they've relentlessly portrayed the ALP leadership as gravely fractured...
