Karnal,
Quote:Only eating at night for a month every year sounds hard.
It's not as hard as it sounds. And the self-control one gains is well worth the effort. It is truly an exercise in harnessing the soul and disciplining the desires. And think of how much more you will appreciate your food when you finally eat it.
I also gave up smoking during my first ramadan as well (which I'd tried many times previously to do, unsuccessfully), so it's a good time to cleanse the body and to get rid of things we don't want in our lives.
Quote:Also, you have to go to Saudi Arabia some time in your life and walk around this building.
The pilgrimage is a wonderful experience. Coming together with the rest of humanity for such an event is undescribable and really makes you feel a part of the greatest brotherhood on earth.
Quote:Oh, and you have to have part of your penis cut off.
This is not compulsory, only highly recommended.
Quote:I'd like to grow a big beard and have little things to say all the time, like "as God wills it," or "peace be upon him." To be honest, I'd like to be peaceful, but I know that's asking a lot in this crazy world. What can you do?
Not quite the greatest of reasons to convert, but I guess different things appeal to different people

If you like to have little things to say all the time, then you won't be disappointed, there is barely an act that humanity partakes in, that doesn't have it's own little supplication.
Quote:Any advice you could give me would really help.
My advice would be decide on whether you believe in the one true Creator, or not. If you have this one solved, then you are in business.
