While our culture in the past was never a perfect one, our forefathers at least aspired to the high ideals and principles, which are clearly enunciated within the Judaeo-Christian 'ethic'.

Roll Eyes

And when Empress Maria Theresa proposed abolishing torture within her realm, as a means for extracting "truth" from victims, her biggest critics were the church fathers.

Hmmm....

Yes helian, i read that verse too....
/sarc off

Irrelevant 12:15
And the church fathers will always oppose abolishing the torture of miscreants, coz the LORD enjoys to hear the screams of mortal man.

Then there's Martin Luther's sadistic tirades against Jews.

helian,

Yeah, ol' Martin L, he must of been really down on Jesus too then???

Matthew 27:24
When Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing, but that rather a tumult was made, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person: see ye to it.
25
Then answered all the people
[i.e. the Jews], and said, His blood be on us, and on our children.

Hebrews 9:15
And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance.
16  For where a testament is, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator.
17  For a testament is of force after men are dead: otherwise it is of no strength at all while the testator liveth.
18  Whereupon neither the first testament was dedicated without blood.
19  For when Moses had spoken every precept to all the people according to the law, he took the blood of calves and of goats, with water, and scarlet wool, and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book, and all the people,
20  Saying, This is the blood of the testament which God hath enjoined unto you.
21  Moreover he sprinkled with blood both the tabernacle, and all the vessels of the ministry.
22  And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.

Yeah helian, those wicked Christian Popes, eh?

DEFINITIONS,

Wickedness

POPE[s]; When people will not obey them, and their authority.

God's; When people do cruel and wicked things to each other.

Not much has changed though has it helian?

People are still killing, and oppressing their brothers and sisters of this flesh.
....and calling it 'righteous', or 'justified'.

Men, are still doing what is right, in their own eyes.

"Right is only in question between equals, and while the strong do what they can, the weak suffer what they must."

Thucydides (460-400 B.C.) Greek Historian

When is the injustice going to end helian?

If there was no religion, would the injustice stop?       Cheesy
....do ya think, duh?

So much for our forefathers aspiring to anything other than actualising their nature.

"....which are clearly enunciated within the Judaeo-Christian 'ethic'."

Exodus 22:21
Thou shalt neither vex a stranger, nor oppress him: for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt.

Exodus 23:9
Also thou shalt not oppress a stranger: for ye know the heart of a stranger, seeing ye were strangers in the land of Egypt.

Leviticus 19:33
And if a stranger sojourn with thee in your land, ye shall not vex him.
34  But the stranger that dwelleth with you shall be unto you as one born among you, and thou shalt love him as thyself; for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the LORD your God.

Deuteronomy 10:17
For the LORD your God is God of gods, and Lord of lords, a great God, a mighty, and a terrible, which regardeth not persons, nor taketh reward:
18  He doth execute the judgment of the fatherless and widow, and loveth the stranger, in giving him food and raiment.
19  Love ye therefore the stranger: for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt.

Matthew 22:36
Master, which is the great commandment in the law?
37  Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
38  This is the first and great commandment.
39  And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

Psalms 34:14
Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it.

Jeremiah 4:22
For my people is foolish, they have not known me; they are sottish children, and they have none understanding: they are wise to do evil, but to do good they have no knowledge.

Jeremiah 9:23
Thus saith the LORD, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches:
24  But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the LORD which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the LORD.

Yet it still seems difficult for many of us to comprehend, that in our existence here, on this little planet, we are all,
....'strangers in a strange land'.

And, i want to go home.

What's with all the Bible verses? This has nothing to do with religion. Set them down in Ibiza or Palma de Mallorca, and they're happy as Larry.

It's all about the weather !

Oh well.......

Matthew 5:45 - That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.

If you can't beat them join them.

Yadda, I am challenging you that instead of copy/pasting bible quotes, you write your own personal interpretation in at least one of every four occasions.

Do you think that you could do that?
God willing, you can do it, and the people will thank you for it.

'Britons unhappy, lonely and unable to cope, study'

Here is my comment,
