You know I am an atheist.
You know I think that your belief system is a man made invention, and even worse, made up by a man of extremely troubling sexual proclivities.
Would it not be fairer to admit that because I hold those beliefs you, and your religion would characterise me as being immoral, and without principles?

The point was that she was trying to have the status quo changed, by deliberately refusing to accept pre-arranged requirements.
This is just a further attempt to have religious foolishness treated with a respect it has neither earned, or deserves.
Plenty of people have weird beliefs, but society is not bound to accommodate them, merely because someone contends they are for religious reasons.
Muslims use religious reasons to bury young girls up to their necks, and then hurl rocks at them until they are dead, for "moral" reasons, so excuse me when I scoff at any muslim even daring to attempt to ever claim any moral superiority over secular western cultures.

Men who force wives to wear Burka 'not welcome in France'

Muslim men who force their wives to wear the full Islamic veil should not be granted French citizenship, Justice Minister Michele Alliot-Marie said on Thursday.
Wading into the debate over whether to ban the burka, Mme Alliot-Marie said the government would await the recommendations of a parliamentary panel considering possible legislation to bar Muslim women from wearing the full veil.
But the minister went on to say that "there are a certain number of basics on which we must stand firm".
"For instance, someone who would be seeking French citizenship and whose wife wears the full veil is someone who would not appear to be sharing the values of our country," she told LCI television.
"Therefore in a case like that one, we would reject his request," she said.
The justice minister said the wearing of the niqab or burka was a "problem that affects our ability to live together, the values of the republic and in particular human dignity."
The panel of 32 lawmakers from across the political spectrum are to hand in their much-awaited report on whether to ban the burka next month.

An outspoken German professor of Islam, whose initial appointment angered Muslim groups, has renounced the faith, the University of Muenster said on Wednesday.

Muhammad Kalisch, who converted to Islam as a teenager, chairs one of the few departments at a German university dedicated to training teachers of Islam in schools. The university did not disclose why Kalisch renounced Islam.

"From the perspective of the university, this will not carry consequences," a spokesman told the German Press Agency dpa.He added that it is not crucial for a professor of Islam to be a Muslim. The university would not confirm whether Kalisch intended to stay in his post.

Kalisch, 44, upset the Muslim community in 2008 by writing that there was no historical evidence of the Prophet Mohammed's existence, prompting Muslim organizations to warn students away from him.

Was he actually Muslim? I don't think so. Half of the Shehadeh is bearing witness to the existence of Muhammad (pbuh).

Ten controversial advertisements by an anti-Muslim group that were removed from Miami-Dade Transit buses after the department received complaints will go back up. The ads, which a transit official said were pulled last week because they ``may be offensive,' have the message ``Fatwa on your head? Is your community or family threatening you? Leaving Islam? Got questions? Get answers!' and direct Muslims to a website urging them to leave the ``falsity of Islam.'

A law firm is suing the Swedish state for discrimination after one if its lawyers, a Muslim woman, was removed from a case following a complaint from a Christian asylum seeker.

The woman's employer, Salmi & Partners, was outraged after the Supreme Migration Court ruled on Thursday to have the woman taken off the case.

"It's just pure discrimination. We're going to demand 100,000 kronor ($13,000) from the state for this violation," said Ismo Salmi at the firm.

Salmi & Partenrs has also vowed to request leave from the Supreme Administrative Court to appeal the verdict.

The lawyer at the centre of the row was appointed last autumn by the Migration Board to represent an Egyptian man seeking asylum in Sweden. The man, a Christian, said he and his family were seeking asylum on grounds of persecution by Muslims in their home country.

On realising that his legal counsel was to be a Muslim woman, the man asked to be assigned a different lawyer.

The Migration Board refused his request, arguing that the lawyer's religion did not constitute sufficient grounds for a switch. The man then turned to the Migration Court of Appeal, where he stated that he did not trust his lawyer, a veil-wearing Muslim woman, to best represent his interests.

The appeals court however reached the same conclusion as the Migration Board and declined to allow the asylum seeker the right to be assigned a new lawyer.

But the Egyptian man appealed again. This time, the Supreme Migration Court ruled in his favour, giving him the right to be assigned a lawyer who was not a Muslim.

Explaining its verdict, the court wrote that the man's grounds for seeking asylum were such that "his reaction to the situation is understandable."

At Salmi & Partners, Ismo Salmi said if the ruling were allowed to stand there was a serious risk that other law firms would think twice about employing lawyers who wore Muslim veils, as to do so might reduce their chances of getting work from the Migration Board.

"It's unbelievable that a superior court in Sweden can make a ruling like this. It's an incredible violation," he said.

It seems pretty silly to provide him with a Muslim lawyer in the first place. I don't necessarily think the lawyer wouldn't have done her best, but if the asylum seeker has suffered persecution from Muslims because he is a Copt, then it stands to reason that he'd be traumatised by and distrustful of a Muslim lawyer. Particularly one who (by wearing the scarf) appears to be religious.
