Who's fault was it?

According to Bob Debious we dont know why the boat blew up yesterday but the WA premier says it was blown up by the refugees, they both get their info from the same person,so who is lying?
These reports from the SMH and the NLD press tell very different stories, of cause NLD love to run the conservative anti immigration line but look at the contrast.
From the SMH

"Boat blows up

Scores of people were injured when fire engulfed the wooden asylum seekers' boat at Ashmore Reef about 800 kilometres west of Darwin.

She was being escorted to Christmas Island by the RAN after being spotted drifting near the reef on Wednesday.

The small fishing boat, carrying 47 Afghani asylum seekers and two crew, exploded and sank.

Three people were killed in the explosion, two are missing and 30 people have been injured. Several Australian Defence Force personnel were also injured in the explosion.

The incident took place in an area under the jurisdiction of the Northern Territory police who have started an investigation as part of a coronial inquiry.

A senior police spokesman said charges could be laid if the fire was found to have been deliberately lit."

That sounds fair enough, if the boat was blown up deliberatley charges will be laid, but this from the tellegragh-

"IT was like the Bali bombings", doctors have revealed today in describing the horrific injuries asylum-seekers sustained when deliberately doused in petrol before a huge explosion on their boat off Australia."

So the telle know more than the navy who told the minister " they dont yet know what happenned"
or the telle are lying when they say the boat was lit "deliberately"
Why do news lmd and the conservatives hate refugees?

Very puzzling skippy .... going back a few years ago with the "children Overboard Scandal".. under Howards watch, one could not rule out foul play by the Navy either, acting under orders..
but with 2 differing accounts by these  2 papers..something is amiss

It could have just been a nasty accident after all..who really knows.?

Are they coming again now because the Rudd Govt. could be , in their estimation a softer touch than Howard was..?

But asylum seekers are desperate pple..if they are genuine and or subject/victim  to pple traiffikers..thats very sad.

Dunno yet what happened aboard that boat. Re the increase in boat people, worldwide there has been an increase in refugees. Thai navy really helping, disabling engines then towing refugee boats out to sea then cutting them adrift.

But boat people are only 4% of unlawful arrivals: most saunter out of planes and past passport counters then overstay their visa. . .of course these tend to be Anglo Saxon types so no probs! smacking Howard & his lies & fear campaigns!

Petrol doesn't explode unless used as a FAE, and I assume this boat was diesel anyway.

Seems like government interference and a coverup, just like Port Arthur.

I am from a foreign government. This is not a joke. I am authorised to investigate state and federal bodies including ASIO.

You don't see them because you choose not to.

Howard pretended to be tough on immigrants, but it was pure show. He made a point of picking on those illegal immigrants who were the most desperate and vulnerable, while opening the floodgates to legal immigrants and doing little to track down the illegals with a bit more cash and style. Now the media focusses on the 'flood' of boat people, oblivious to the fact that it is a tiny part of what is really going on.

You can always expect politicians to try to score a few cheap points from these tragedies, whatever side of politics they are from. All we can do is wait for the real story to come out about this particular incident. Looks like it is going to take a while.

It's not about Howard, Rudd or any other politician. It's about walking down the street, catching a bus or a train.
There are so many obviously out of place people. Culturally, demeanor-wise, in customs and bearings. They are so obvioussly ignorant of where they are, what the habits and customs of the place are.
I mean how anachronstic, how out of place, how ridiculous can you be in a frigging turban and your pajamas on George Street? Why bother coming all this way if in your heart you are still only a turban wearing kinda guy?

And you can't even laught at ridiculous people because apart from being rdiculous, they are also very, very bloody sensitive. Sensitive, that is, in a self-regarding way. Not sensitive to the changed times and  changed place that they find themselves in. No. To that, they are utterly oblivous.

Darwin could be right.  Whenever there are wars, there is an increase in refugees and it is the responsibility of those occupying governments to help these people when they can.

I don't think anyone is very happy about the increase in asylum seekers, but it was hard to ever believe Howard's figures. I doubt we ever knew the correct numbers. Why did the coalition build the prison complex on Christmas Island if they weren't expecting an influx of displaced people?  Some of those seeking asylum did say they started their journey when the Coalition was in power.

Darwin is right, most people, in fact more than 90% who come here on boats are accepted as refugees.
Not one person who has ever come to Australia via a boat has been found to be a security risk by ASIO or the feds.
Some of the people on the current boat have made prior attempts, the're desperate.
The current refugees are  Afgan since the war in their country and the Iraq war there are 2 million refugees from both of those countries looking for somewhere else to live, whilst western forces stay in those countries bombing the cr ap out of them these numbers will only grow.

That is the most correct thing i have ever seen from you.   It is rather pitiful, when you think about how much energy we waste on complaining about a mere 80 boat people who by the way could easily and legally be dispatched by torpedo, shells or machine gun mid-ocean, meanwhile we are turning a blind eye to the 800+ 'legal' immigrants which flood us every day to work as cheap labour, leech of our generous welfare systems, reproduce wildly and eventually take over.

I agree with you AN.  All legal immigrants who migrated to Australia over the last 10 years should be sent complimentary free tickets by our government to board a cruise ship and then blown up.   This could all be organised by the Rudd government as part of the next phase to stimulate the economy.  They could then blame some glitch in the fuel system of the ship and no one will ever know.
