Comparing Allah, Yahweh, Jehovah, God etc
Jan 10th, 2009 at 1:04pm

Firstly, by definition there can be only one supreme being, God, what have you, yet, we are taught that there are lesser 'God's' (to use the pre-Christian terminology) such as angels, which are hardly God's anyhow, but have been given free reign by God to do his work, can be rebellious or righteous, etc, at least according to my understanding.

Now, from the Jehovah's Witness perspective, whose church gathering thingo I attended once, I am not sure they believe Jesus to be God. They told me they believe the Archangel Michael to be the return of Jesus. However, by this reasoning, Jesus cannot be God, as this archangel is the leader of God's armies against satan, in Heaven. This would imply that we are already in Heaven, and a spiritual struggle is underway to cast satan out of Heaven and send him and his followers to Hell. That would imply we are living in pre OT times, if you think about it, if the fallen angels are yet to be cast out of Heaven.

Now compare the Muslim and Jewish interpretations of God.

Very strict rules, oppression, fighting, war, control by the government or what have you. Their interpretations are very similar.

The state of Israel, which is supposed to be a Jewish state and a chosen place for 'God's chosen people' (so they would want you to believe) just recently had Rabbi's allowing soldiers to kill civilians if they get in the way. Isn't the commandment thou shalt not murder supposedly one Jews have to subscribe to? Would this mean the Jewish state of 'God's chosen people' is going against exactly what God would have for them, and feeling they are smarter and more superior than God, considering their religious leaders have just disregarded official divine rules, according to their doctrine?

Muslims are more, if no one comes to our way, they are less than us, we will dominate them, which is the same as the Jews, in essence. Muslims are even allowed to deny their faith and drink alcohol and eat pork if it suits their purpose. How is deceit and treachery the way of God? It seems more the way of satan.

Christians are more, relax, love everyone, be true, God will look after you. Christians ascribe more faith to God it would seem than Jews or Muslims, as they allow him to work as he sees fit, unless given perhaps a special spiritual purpose or revelation. Eastern (Hindu, I think) philosophy would call that dharma. The Christian interpretation of God gives you free will, and choice, and the decisions you make in life are weighed up and judged at a later stage.

Islam and Judaism are directly opposed to this. They are more do it our way, right now, or we will punish you on this earth before you get to leave, as if implying they have no faith in punishment after death.

I think Jews aren't even supposed to believe in a concept of Hell, and they think they all get in to Heaven.

My interpretation is that Judaism is a religion based on law and control, Islam is a religion based on war, power, deceit, domination, and Christianity is a religion based on love.

What do you think?

Quite possibly neither.

Seriously though, from my Christian perspective:

Islam, similar to devil worship (according to my interpretation of Christian thought);

Judaism, similar to totalitarianism, domination of the people, again, similar to devil worship;

Christianity, love each other, God will sort it out.

Think about this one, Jesus presented himself as the Jewish Messiah, who was rejected by the rulers, possibly because he was a threat to their authority.

Now, Messiah, I think that means Saviour.

Save them from what? Perhaps their old way of life, which they failed to realise, due to how ever many years of indoctrination, was evil in nature. Their rulers were abusers of power, hypocrites, slave drivers (after fleeing slavery, which they must have thought was bad in order to run from it) practice and condone all the evil they say they are against. Now you have the religious authority in Israel condoning the killing of civilians.

Then you have the Muslims, who from my understanding call Jesus a prophet, but when he returns, he is the Messiah. If he is the Messiah at any stage, then he was the Messiah at all stages. But then I've also heard that the Muslims are waiting for a Mahdi or 12th Imam or something to rule over the Muslims. Is that whom they imply Jesus will be when he returns? I find that unlikely. How can a preacher of tolerance, love, and turning the other cheek possibly gravitate towards the violence inherent within the Islamic faith?

And then, for all we know, it is a massive global set up, from the beginning, where religion and cults have always been used to control people, and Jesus saw through this, and for the good of humanity decided to present himself as the saviour, knowing full well that he would be killed, in order to try and free humanity from bondage. And then his teachings were abused, misused and misconstrued in order for more control over the general population.

Or maybe he really was the saviour in a religious sense and not a ethical sense, and knew this would happen, which is why he promised to come again.

Its an interesting thread, sorry I've been busy to add to it

Interesting part is, all beliefs purport that this is all the same God.
Yet the "goals" and methods used by all 3 are quite different.

When I have read the bible through it almost seems as though Gods character ... matures as a parent ??
He is very authoritarian initially, then softens and becomes more forgiving later on.

I can see the progression from A jewish faith to the christian one.
Then muslims seem to take a great step backwards to go before jewish beliefs into something even more constraining.

It'ld be good to have a jews and muslims thoughts on this

easel,

Err, you did ask!

+++++

[What follows is my opinion. I can't prove these things, to you.]

If we [humans] are honest, we would admit that we know practically nothing about our 'reality',
.....and certainly, we know just 'as much', about ourselves,
.....as we do about our 'reality'!

I admit, i too do not know what reality is,
....but i can say confidently, i *do know*, 'this', is not it.

Atheists in the UK, recently started an advertising campaign on buses, with the slogan,
"There's probably no God. Now stop worrying and enjoy your life."

Someone once said,
....."People believe, what the want to believe."

Atheists want to believe, that there is no God.

I want to believe, in the God of Israel.

Within Christian and Jewish scripture, God states that it is his intention is to eventually reveal himself to all mankind,

We'll see.

JUDAISM, CHRISTIANITY and ISLAM,
.....what do they represent?

If you have at all nurtured any spiritual discernment, please use it!

This 'life',
...is not LIFE!

Do you think that we have LIFE, here?

ROFLOL!!!!!

This 'life', is a pale shadow of real LIFE!

What would make me say such a thing, and how would i know this?

Well, i know that i am unable to prove anything, to another person on this matter.

So there is no point, in relating my [un-provable] experience[s], that brought me to know [...err, to have an opinion],
....that this 'life', is not LIFE.

But read on.....

Exodus 2:22
And she bare him a son, and he called his name Gershom: for he said, I have been a stranger in a strange land.

".....I have been a stranger in a strange land."

Parables and analogies such as this [above] are revealed throughout the OT scriptures.

We [all mankind] are all 'strangers' in a strange land.

Deuteronomy 31:23
"....for thou [Joshua] shalt bring the children of Israel into the land which I sware unto them."

The reference to a 'promised land' in the Bible, is another parable / analogy about our journey, here, in this 'reality'.

Hebrews 11:8
By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.
9  By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise:

THE PURPOSE IN OUR BEING HERE [in this 'life']

The Bible reveals that we are here, principally, to suffer the 'afflictions', of this life.

Or as the Buddhists would say,
....."To live, is to suffer."

If there is a God, is this cruel of God?

Why would a loving God allow, or require, us to suffer 'afflictions', in this life???....

Daniel 12:10
Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand.

"......and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand."

'Israel', and indeed all of those [in this 'world'] who regard *themselves* as God's people, are tested in this life, with afflictions [hardships].

[If you would like to study how afflictions can affect us, read Job.]

How we respond to those afflictions that come upon us, and the choices we make as a consequence of our afflictions, reveals our worth, and reveals our spiritual 'discernment',
....or lack thereof.

Isaiah 48:10
Behold, I have refined thee [Israel], but not with silver; I have chosen thee in the furnace of affliction.

Psalms 11:4
The LORD is in his holy temple, the LORD'S throne is in heaven: his eyes behold, his eyelids try, the children of men.
The LORD trieth the righteous: but the wicked and him that loveth violence his soul hateth.

We are spiritual creatures, [and we are] prisoners within these earthen bodies [within this 'reality'].

Daniel 12:1
And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.
2  And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.

JUDAISM

God selected a ['chosen'] people, to reveal his plan, for the [spiritual] redemption of mankind.

Deuteronomy 32:8
When the most High divided to the nations their inheritance, when he separated the sons of Adam, he set the bounds of the people according to the number of the children of Israel.
9  For the LORD'S portion is his people; Jacob [Israel] is the lot of his inheritance.

The past, present and future of God's 'chosen people', was outlined in the Song of Moses,
Deuteronomy 31:14-30
....through Deuteronomy 32:1-47
http://www.blueletterbible.org/kjv/Deu/Deu031.html#14

Daniel 9:13
As it is written in the law of Moses, all this evil is come upon us: yet made we not our prayer before the LORD our God, that we might turn from our iniquities, and understand thy truth.

Isaiah 43:8
Bring forth the blind people that have eyes, and the deaf that have ears.
9  Let all the nations be gathered together, and let the people be assembled: who among them can declare this, and shew us former things? let them bring forth their witnesses, that they may be justified: or let them hear, and say, It is truth.
10  Ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen......

Who do you think the 'blind' & 'deaf' ppl [above] are???

These 'blind' & 'deaf' ppl, are not just the Jews!!

Israel [Jews] are still God's ppl, they have always been his servants [chosen, as a means to reveal something both, fearful, and wondrous to mankind].

No other book, quite like the Bible.

No other people, quite like the Jews.

Why?

Deuteronomy 31:25
That Moses commanded the Levites, which bare the ark of the covenant of the LORD, saying,
26  Take this book of the law, and put it in the side of the ark of the covenant of the LORD your God, that it may be there for a witness against thee.

Psalms 135:4
For the LORD hath chosen Jacob unto himself, and Israel for his peculiar treasure.

CHRISTIANITY

Jesus NT testimony revealed that what we call, this 'life', is a parable, and a mystery.

A parable, and a mystery that was, and which had been, already, explained [in the parables hidden-in-plain-sight] within the OT scripture.

Jesus reveals....

John 5:37
And the Father himself, which hath sent me, hath borne witness of me. Ye have neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen his shape.
38  And ye have not his word abiding in you: for whom he hath sent, him ye believe not.
39  Search the [OT] scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.
40  And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life.

Jesus claim was, that he came to reveal the TRUTH [....the reality?] to men, he also claimed that much of the OT scripture spoke of [predicted] his coming.

John 18:37
Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.

Jesus reveals....

Luke 24:25
Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken:
26  Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory?
27  And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.

Luke 24:44
And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.

Acts 3:12
And when Peter saw it, he answered unto the people, Ye men of Israel, why marvel ye at this? or why look ye so earnestly on us, as though by our own power or holiness we had made this man to walk?
13  The God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and of Jacob, the God of our fathers, hath glorified his Son Jesus; whom ye delivered up, and denied him in the presence of Pilate, when he was determined to let him go.
14  But ye denied the Holy One and the Just, and desired a murderer to be granted unto you;
15  And killed the Prince of life, whom God hath raised from the dead; whereof we are witnesses.

Acts 3:18
But those things, which God before had shewed by the mouth of all his prophets, that Christ should suffer, he hath so fulfilled.
19  Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;
20  And he shall send Jesus Christ, which before was preached unto you:
21  Whom the heaven must receive until the times of restitution of all things, which God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began.
22  For Moses truly said unto the fathers, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear in all things whatsoever he shall say unto you.
23  And it shall come to pass, that every soul, which will not hear that prophet, shall be destroyed from among the people.

If you want further insight into Jesus 'mission', read all of Jesus parables.

ISLAM

There is another [spiritual] player, besides God.

SATAN seeks to be the 'spoiler',

He is also the adversary [of those who seek God], and he is a 'wonderful' deceiver.

SATAN once lived in the LIGHT, but today, he is the prince of darkness.

What does ISLAM portray, about itself?

To the uninformed [non-muslim], ISLAM deceitfully *portrays* and presents itself, as a continuation of Judaism and Christianity.
.....this is a lie.

Muslims try to deceitfully convey an assurance [to uninformed non-muslims], that ISLAM has a common spiritual heritage, with Judaism and Christianity.
.....this is a lie.

And it is a fact that devout muslims always portray ISLAM, within the muslim community, NOT as an equal co-existing religion, or [merely] as a religion which 'evolved' from Judaism or Christianity,
.....but devout muslims assert that ISLAM is at the same time, both a replacement of, and a *repudiation* of, Judaism and Christianity.

Deceitfully, ISLAM seeks to beguile Christians and Jews with assurances such as,
....e.g. "We are all People of the Book."
.....this is a lie.

Within the muslim community, ISLAM insists that it will NEVER accept being an equal, co-existing religion, with Judaism and Christianity.

And ISLAM itself totally rejects the authority of Christian and Jewish scripture.
....only the Koran is Allah's 'inerrant' word.

To all of my muslim brothers and sisters, i will point out to you,
.....the Koran, came through the 'witness' of one man, Muhammad.

Deuteronomy 17:6
At the mouth of two witnesses, or three witnesses, shall he that is worthy of death be put to death; but at the mouth of one witness he shall not be put to death.

And if you muslims, who seek to who imitate Muhammad, believe that you will go to Allah's paradise, as a reward for oppressing and killing your brothers/sisters in this flesh,
.....you have been duped, by SATAN!

One of my favourite Koran verses,

"Satan makes them promises, and creates in them false desires; but satan's promises are nothing but deception.
They (his dupes) will have their dwelling in Hell, and from it they will find no way of escape."

http://www.usc.edu/dept/MSA/quran/004.qmt.html#004.120

I urge all muslims, repent.

Seek your true God.

My God is not a cruel God.

I know that my God is wondrous and just.

Jeremiah 9:24
But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the LORD which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the LORD.

".....For in these things I delight, saith the LORD.
.....LOVINGKINDNESS, JUDGMENT, and RIGHTEOUSNESS."

And my God is a God of TRUTH.

Deuteronomy 32:3
Because I will publish the name of the LORD: ascribe ye greatness unto our God.
4  He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he.

Psalms 31:5
Into thine hand I commit my spirit: thou hast redeemed me, O LORD God of truth.

Job 12:16
With [God] is strength and wisdom: the deceived and the deceiver are his.

If you truly wish to 'see' and comprehend what TRUTH is, seek it [TRUTH], and never reject it, when you recognise it!

ISLAM is a major plank in SATAN's attempt to foil God's plan.

But it has largely, already failed.

Revelation 12:1
And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars:
.....9  And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.
10  And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.
11  And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.
12  Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time.
13  And when the dragon saw that he was cast unto the earth, he persecuted the woman which brought forth the man child.
14  And to the woman were given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness, into her place, where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent.
15  And the serpent cast out of his mouth water as a flood after the woman, that he might cause her to be carried away of the flood.

The "....woman clothed with the sun," [above] is/are God's ppl in this world.

1 John 4:1
Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
2  Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:
3  And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.

This 1 John 4 verse [above] refers to a circumstance where,"....Jesus Christ is come in the flesh".

What does that phrase that mean?

It means that, God himself, came in the flesh.

And this is stated elsewhere in scripture,
......"And the Word was made flesh,"

That is what the scripture [OT, Isaiah 7:14] prophesied, and that is what the scripture [NT, Matthew 1:23] declared in referring to Jesus ministry.

Isaiah 7:14
Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

Matthew 1:23
Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.

Immanuel = = God with us.

Matthew 17:1
And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into an high mountain apart,
And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light.
3  And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias talking with him.
4  Then answered Peter, and said unto Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias.
5  While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.

John 1:10
He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.
11  He came unto his own, and his own received him not.
12  But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
13  Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
14  And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

++++++

Look at this world today.

We live in a world filled with violence and injustice.

Matthew 24:32
Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh:
33  So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors.
34  Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.
35  Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.
36  But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.
37  But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
38  For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark,
39  And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

Psalms 1:1
Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
2  But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.

Lamentations 3:25
The LORD is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him.
26  It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the LORD.

Isaiah 30:18
And therefore will the LORD wait, that he may be gracious unto you, and therefore will he be exalted, that he may have mercy upon you: for the LORD is a God of judgment: blessed are all they that wait for him.

Seek your God.

A little more on this subject here,

"....We are all God's [spirit] children, who [in this 'life'] inhabit this 'prison', our earthen bodies.
.....We are all God's prodigal children, who have gone astray [in this world].
.....God's message to mankind, throughout the ages, has always been the same....."

Yadda,

So we are all God's children, yes? Jesus claimed to be God, yet also the son of man. Therefore was he saying God is a human construct? I don't think so. God is also not man, but God, which by definition can be anything it so desires. When he was crucified he asked the Father to forgive the people who killed them, once again implying a higher power than he.

Also, did Jesus not say everything he has done we (you, was the terminology he used, assuming anyone who reads his word to be you) can do also?

Of course Latin for God is Deus, and that comes from the Greek word Zeus/Theos.

Jupiter was the main Roman God, and that comes from  Deus Pater, God the Father, or Diespater, father of the day.

You can find similar words in other Indo European languages, such as the Ancient Hindi term Dyaus pitara, then we have Avestian Daeva, which means demon. Ancient Russian gives us Zhiva, and of course there is the Dravidian God Shiva.

There is a common Proto Indo European word which means the sky/ light of day or God.

No one says it better than Pat Condell:

Although I am conscious of not upsetting religious people (other than Muslims) because I am a great believer that Sikhs, Jews, Hindus, Christians will join in a great anti-jihad alliance.

I dont believe any of it however, and think it is infantile fairy tales for the weakminded.

Is it recorded that Jesus attacked merchants at a market because he felt their prices were unfair/robbing the people?

That's not exactly an oath of non violence.

No it was because they had set up in the Temple doing business. Jesus went ballistic and turned over their stalls.

John 2:15 (Worldwide English (New Testament))

Quote:
13The time for the Passover Feast of the Jews was near. So Jesus went to Jerusalem.

14In the temple he found people buying and selling things. They were selling cows, sheep, and doves. Others were sitting at tables changing money for the people.

15 Jesus tied some pieces of cord together to make a whip. Then he drove out all the people who were buying and selling in the temple. And he drove out the sheep and the cows. He threw down the tables of the money changers and their money.

16He said to the people who sold doves, `Take these things out of here. Do not make my Father's house into a market place.'

17His disciples remembered that God's word says, `My love for your house is like a fire burning in me.'

18The leaders of the Jews said to Jesus, `Who gave you the right to do this? What big work will prove it to us?'

19Jesus answered them, `Break down this temple and in three days I will raise it up.'

20The Jewish leaders said, `It took forty-six years to build this temple. Do you say you will raise it in three days?'

John Ch 8 v 31-47

31 Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed him: If you continue in my word, you shall be my disciples indeed. 32 And you shall know the truth: and the truth shall make you free. 33 They answered him: We are the seed of Abraham: and we have never been slaves to any man. How sayest thou: You shall be free? 34 Jesus answered them: Amen, amen, I say unto you that whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin. 35 Now the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the son abideth for ever. 36 If therefore the son shall make you free, you shall be free indeed. 37 I know that you are the children of Abraham: but you seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you. 38 I speak that which I have seen with my Father: and you do the things that you have seen with your father. 39 They answered and said to him: Abraham is our father. Jesus saith them: If you be the children of Abraham, do the works of Abraham. 40 But now you seek to kill me, a man who have spoken the truth to you, which I have heard of God. This Abraham did not. 41 You do the works of your father. They said therefore to him: We are not born of fornication: we have one Father, even God. 42 Jesus therefore said to them: If God were your Father, you would indeed love me. For from God I proceeded and came. For I came not of myself: but he sent me. 43 Why do you not know my speech? Because you cannot hear my word. 44 You are of your father the devil: and the desires of your father you will do. He was a murderer from the beginning: and he stood not in the truth, because truth is not in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father thereof. 45 But if I say the truth, you believe me not. 46 Which of you shall convince me of sin? If I say the truth to you, why do you not believe me: 47 He that is of God heareth the words of God. Therefore you hear them not, because you are not of God.

Is Jesus saying the Jews are doing the desires of the devil? Looks like it to me.
