Ayaan Hirsi Ali is an inspirational woman, because she refused to have other people, be they family, or religious zealots, tell her that she must have her life experiences limited by a primitive religious doctrine she could not respect. She made her own path, and has created a life for herself, that very few muslim women could even dream of. She is educated, articulate, independent and free to speak her mind.
This does highlight the shocking subjugation that muslim women are coerced into believing is their natural place in life. We saw mention of Greer, and that she is a proud independent woman can not be denied, we do not need to agree with all her assertions to respect that, but we all can bemoan the fact that no muslim woman in the world can experience that type of freedom.
We see shows like the UK's, "Grumpy Old Women" where women forthrightly, and hilariously, give their views on our daily grind.
Could Islam ever produce a show like this?
I cannot see it, and until they can, their women will remain relegated to the status of sex and procreation tools, and little else.
