Kevin's getting arrogant, says poll

July 31, 2008
AN increasing number of voters since the past election are seeing Prime Minister Kevin Rudd as out of touch and arrogant, a Newspoll says.

But while 43 per cent of voters now class Mr Rudd as arrogant, up 10 points from a poll taken on February 29, the prime minister is viewed as strong and decisive, likeable, caring and having a vision for Australia, The Australian newspaper reports.

Mr Rudd is still seen as being more in touch with voters than Opposition Leader Brendan Nelson, 73 percentage points to 44 points.

But the Prime Minister's personal rating related to being in touch with voters has fallen to 73 per cent from 86 per cent.

Opposition leader Brendan Nelson recorded a rating of 42 per cent of voters who thought he was arrogant, a drop of six points.

The Newspoll found that Dr Nelson has improved in every area and Mr Rudd's position has fallen from its high popularity ratings after the election.

Mr Rudd still holds double digit leads over Dr Nelson in most areas.

His biggest lead over the coalition leader comes in the area of the environment where he leads by 53 percentage points.
