Iranian President: Good interview on Charlie Rose

I encourage everyone to watch this interview, it is 54 minutes long but in it the Iranian President expresses his wishes and some of those are:

*A stable Iraq and Afghanistan free from terrorism because that terrorism affects Iran and makes relations more difficult between the nations.

*A willingness to accept a two state solution for Israel/Palestine if the Palestinians agree to it in a referrendum and it will bring peace.

*A hope to build a relationship with the US based on mutual kindness and brotherhood.

*The clear fact that Iran has no intention of obtaining nuclear weapons because ideologically it is considered unessecary and repulsive due to the fact that not only does it not benefit any nations security, but it doesn't help them in war.

*Iran is a democratic nation where people do have far more freedoms than they had under the US installed Shah of Iran. Where public official's are elected by the people in direct elections, with press that even in Iran criticizes Ahmadinejad and who don't face repercussions for it. And also where the people themselves voted on March 30 and 31, 1979, in a national referendum on the question of whether they approved of abolishing the US installed monarchy and replacing it with an Islamic republic. The result was that a 98% majority favored abrogating the old constitution and establishing such an Islamic republic. Thus showing that the current constitution was supported by the Iranian people en masse.

I've heard a lot of criticism of Irans democracy. Is it really democratic?

Could you please not start too many new threads on the same topic?

People who can't distinguish between etymology and entomology bug me in ways I cannot put into words.

Well yes, it's very democratic. But to the extent of electing officials that represent them in the parliament. It's laws are still based on Shariah though.

Iran isn't perfect, although I personally believe it's the closest example we have of an Islamic  State at the moment, it just needs a great deal of reform to bring it the rest of the way. They need to work on their human rights issues but I think they can acheive it.

Good link.

"The Evil Has Landed".
LOL.

I note that he was described as a Holocaust denier. What is the basis of his assumption?

Charlie Rose spoke about "the importance of the Islamic revolutionary idealogy" and whether there is room to negotiate within the confines of that idealogy. What are your thoughts?

Furthermore, @ 44mins President Ahmadinejad said that Iran is a member of the "IAEU"? What is that? I've googled but can't find anything relevant. Do you know? Perhaps I've heard wrong.
