But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.
Against such things there is no law.

The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons.
Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron.
They forbid people to marry and order them to abstain from certain foods, which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and who know the truth.
For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, because it is consecrated by the word of God and prayer.

This one is one of the convuluted ones from Paul.
But I like it.

Now about food sacrificed to idols: We know that we all possess knowledge.
Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up.
The man who thinks he knows something does not yet know as he ought to know.
But the man who loves God is known by God.
So then, about eating food sacrificed to idols: We know that an idol is nothing at all in the world and that there is no God but one.
For even if there are so-called gods, whether in heaven or on earth (as indeed there are many "gods" and many "lords"), yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom all things came and for whom we live; and there is but one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things came and through whom we live.

But not everyone knows this.
Some people are still so accustomed to idols that when they eat such food they think of it as having been sacrificed to an idol, and since their conscience is weak, it is defiled.
But food does not bring us near to God; we are no worse if we do not eat, and no better if we do.

Be careful, however, that the exercise of your freedom does not become a stumbling block to the weak.
For if anyone with a weak conscience sees you who have this knowledge eating in an idol's temple, won't he be emboldened to eat what has been sacrificed to idols?
So this weak brother, for whom Christ died, is destroyed by your knowledge.
When you sin against your brothers in this way and wound their weak conscience, you sin against Christ.
Therefore, if what I eat causes my brother to fall into sin, I will never eat meat again, so that I will not cause him to fall.

".............Later they sent some of the Pharisees and Herodians to Jesus to catch him in his words.
They came to him and said, "Teacher, we know you are a man of integrity. You aren't swayed by men, because you pay no attention to who they are; but you teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. Is it right to pay taxes to Caesar or not? Should we pay or shouldn't we?"

But Jesus knew their hypocrisy. "Why are you trying to trap me?" he asked. "Bring me a denarius and let me look at it."
They brought the coin, and he asked them, "Whose portrait is this? And whose inscription?"
"Caesar's," they replied.
Then Jesus said to them, "Give to Caesar what is Caesar's and to God what is God's."
And they were amazed at him............"

Why cherry pick the nice passages of the Bible?

The book must be read & understood in it's entirety.

Quote:
There's no formula for happiness, that's guaranteed to work
It all depends on how you treat your friends
And how much you've been hurt

But it's a start, when you open up your heart
And try not to hide, what you feel inside
Just open up your heart

There's no dreamer who's ever dreamed, and seen it all come true
Takes a lot of time and breaks a lot of hearts, to see an idea through
And love's just a simple word, it's truth is easily lost
And sorry is said so easily, nobody counts the cost

But it's a start, when you open up your heart
Give you love to others, they become your brother
You open up your heart, come on, make a start
Try not to hide, what you feel inside
Just open up your heart

But it's a start, you open up your heart
Give your love to others, they become your brother
You open up your heart, come on, make a start
Try not to hide, what you feel inside
Just open up your heart
There's no formula for happiness that's guaranteed to work
And no lovers ever been in love, and not been hurt
No dreamer's ever dreamed, and seen it all come true
In the end you find the things that count, a look to me and you

But it's a start, you open up your heart
Give your love to others, they become your brother
You open up your heart, come on, make a start
Try not to hide, what you feel inside
Just open up your heart, look for another love
Try not to hide, what you feel inside

Oops, sorry, that was from a hippie pot smoking surfer from the 1970's, Mr G Wayne Thomas.

It is a pity he wasn't available to help out when they wrote the original, as his little ditty encapsulates more truth than the big book does with all it's begats and begots and hellfires and damnations.

If you want to experience a little bliss, space out on the track with some nice waves to watch at the same time, ahh, heaven is a place on earth where you are at peace with yourself, and the world? what a strange trippy hippy concept. Smiley Smiley Smiley

Following Mozza's example:

Disillusioned words like bullets bark
As human gods aim for their mark
Make everything from toy guns that spark
To flesh-colored Christs that glow in the dark
It’s easy to see without looking too far
That not much is really sacred

While preachers preach of evil fates
Teachers teach that knowledge waits
Can lead to hundred-dollar plates
Goodness hides behind its gates
But even the president of the United States
Sometimes must have to stand naked

For them that must obey authority
That they do not respect in any degree
Who despise their jobs, their destinies
Speak jealously of them that are free
Cultivate their flowers to be
Nothing more than something they invest in

While them that defend what they cannot see
With a killer’s pride, security
It blows the minds most bitterly
For them that think death’s honesty
Won’t fall upon them naturally
Life sometimes must get lonely

And if my thought-dreams could be seen
They’d probably put my head in a guillotine
But it’s alright, Ma, it’s life, and life only

A couple of stanzas from Dylan's 'It's Alright Ma'.

Wow, I had never noticed that verse before,
he surely was a poet of worth,
I can almost feel the despair and disdain,
bleeding from those words.
Thanks for that one Annie.

Sprint

So true Sprint, while some of us may feel no need to deify our spiritual beliefs, that does not diminish there importance to us.

Mozz, I love that part in particular, though there is at least one little gem of wisdom in every verse. Dylan is a brilliant man.

Sprint, that we do. I hope you have a wonderful Monday.

This one is from the Monty Python Bible:

All things dull and ugly
All creatures short and squat
All things rude and nasty
The Lord God made the lot.

Each little snake that poisons
Each little wasp that stings
He made their brutish venom
He made their horrid wings.

All things sick and cancerous
All evil great and small
All things foul and dangerous
The Lord God made them all.

Each nasty little hornet
Each beastly little squid
Who made the spiky urchin?
Who made the sharks? He did

All things scabbed and ulcerous
All pox both great and small
Putrid, foul and gangrenous
The Lord God made them all.
